1 edit | Swap Vista and XP installs between 2 drives
Well I have been using XP for a long time and finally decided to try Vista by dual-booting. I installed Vista on my second HD, while keeping my XP install on my first (newer) drive in the case I did not like it.
The problem is, I am really starting to like Vista and want to put this install on the new HD (which is faster) and move the XP install to my second HD.
What would be the easiest way to do this? Would this mess up the MBR?
If needed, I wouldn't mind reinstalling Vista, but I do not want to touch the XP install as there are tons of programs and games installed and it would be a PITA to redo that.
To makes things easier to visualize: Disk0 = currently XP, want to move install to Disk1 Disk1 = currently Vista, will prob reinstall to Disk0 once I can move XP.

I have XP one one drive and Vista on the other. Newegg has a decent selection of bays to choose from. |

| reply to HydroponiK Well if you have a hard drive imaging software you could image both drives and restore each image to the drive you wish to have each image on. I believe Windows will take care of the drive lettering automatically. That might be the easiest way to do what you want. |

| reply to HydroponiK If you have been running XP as your primary OS and now want to move it to another drive you simply can't do that as all the boot information, MBR, boot sector, etc point to XP being installed the the primary drive.
You should first get the new hard drive, then use something like Arconis Workstation to image (ghost) the Vista drive to the new HD which will still make it the 2nd hard drive in your machine. Then leave XP were it is.

| reply to HydroponiK Well I think I figured it out.
1 - wipe vista installation from Disk 1, and remove the vista boot mgr. 2 - use »www.xxclone.com/ and move the XP installation from Disk 0 to Disk 1. 3 - reinstall vista onto Disk 0.
Anyone foresee any issues doing this? --
