Re: Speedfactory No Longer Servicing DSL in Atlanta Area I switched to AT&T back in April after the first set of issues. Has zero problems switching over and used my existing speedfactory Hawkings modem. just had to update username/pwd and I was set to go. no outages from AT&T
I got burned with small local DSL service (i.e speed factory) so decided not to go with another small local DSL service who could go belly up at anytime |

 | reply to SFisDEAD Up with Atlantic Nexus, yippy! Plugged in their modem and worked right off the bat. The problem I had with the Greatspeed Duo was we couldn't access the modem with the 192.168.7.1 IP that is in the manual but I later tried the gateway IP on the sticker on the bottom (found it by doing a tracert and then saw it on the sticker) and got to the pop up user password box and the defaut user name and password in the manual didn't work along with several others I tried including user Speedfactory password Sucks, didn't try the admin admin one though. I did another reset to try and get it back to the default in the manual and after that reset it never acknowledged being on an ethernet connection again so I think I killed it. But we got the Speedstream via UPS overnight for $20, plugged it in and plugged in my wireless router that I used the same PPoE username and password (just changed to @atnex.net) and back up immediately and clocking in at 2900 DL and 309 Up with a 60ms ping, about what I had with Speedfactory for $17 less a month. Great company, reminds me of what Speedfactory was back in the day, hope they stay this great. |

Ataru join:2008-04-13 Smyrna, GA | reply to SFisDEAD I'm only mildly surprised by this latest nonsense from SF - after their antics in April, the writing was on the wall. What's ironic is that they still managed to improve on their communication from that April debacle, although I do sympathize (a little) with the folks who decided to stick it out rather than pulling the plug (as I and many others did). I switched to AtNex and haven't looked back, I highly recommend them in every possible way.
I wish all you ex SF-ers luck with your impending credit card disputes and (hopefully) lawsuits arising from this situation. |

 | reply to SFisDEAD Has anybody with IFITL be able to waive the $99 professional installation charge imposed by AT&T? There is nothing to install as my parents already have had the service.
If we can waive the installation charge, we might go with the $10 786k DSL lite service. My parents have a very light usage pattern. |

 | I'm a former SF customer served by IFITL in the Acworth/Kennesaw area. I called BSFA on the first day (Friday) of the April SF meltdown. They insisted that they'd need to visit me for a professional install and of course charge me $99. After getting pointers on DSLr on how BSFA allows you to self-select your userID and create your account, I was back up and running on the weekend. I got their CSR to reverse, or waive, the charge in the end, though my wife did tell me that the installer truck came by a couple of days later (and left without doing anything, of course!). The workorder on my BS online phone account page remained 'open' for the longest time, but was finally closed.
Explain to the CSR that you're already wired, and if you can self-setup your BSFA account, you don't need their help. Don't take 'no' for an answer.
Good luck! Dave |

 | I stuck in there after the first outage, then after this last one I took the time and shopped around. Ended up going with AtNexus.
Ordered late Thurs afternoon, got my confirmation email a few hours later with static ip info and plugged all that into my existing router with my new pppoe login.
Went to work on Friday and when I got home, connection was already up and running on all my PCs. I didn't have to reboot or restart anything at all.
The AtNexus folks must really enjoy their jobs. They are very responsive and a pleasure to talk to.
Oh, and the secret to why they never seem to sleep and they're always there; I think it's because they enjoy talking to their customers. |

 | Hmm, that's strange.
Shows me posting from comcast.net, but I'm on a AtNexus connection.
