News says jus' a few gas lines broken, and a few small fires. Advising to NOT use cell service, (it don't work), but otherwise no serious injuries reported.

Many "after-shocks", 28 I believe was quoted. Diminishing in intensity.

Sounds like it was jus' strong 'nuff to get every ones attention, but not bad 'nuff to hurt anyone. Hope so!!

Stay safe Gary, and our friends in, and 'round the LA area!

Nanners came in here and jumped in daddy's lap.

EDIT: And that ain't exactly a pleasant experience when you're not expecting it. She's over 100 pounds.

Thanks, I have two nieces w/families living in San Diego and an L.A. suburb. I just know if I contact them, they'll yawn and say I worry too much.

I just had to know. You can't always tell by the number how serious the quake. There are all kinds and some with smaller numbers do more damage than some of the bigger ones. Depends on so many things, how deep and where it happens as well as how long it goes on and, yes, how intense are the aftershocks.

It was less than 20 miles from me as the crow flies. Minor damage from stuff falling to the floor.

You could avoid that by just keeping stuff on the floor, you know?

Many of us felt it down here in SD area but it wasn't much more then a slightly rolling feeling.

That's where I keep my clothes.

One of the items was a 20" CRT monitor..... it danced off my desk in the office.

Naw, I simply stuck it back in the middle against the back wall where it's supposed to be. I'd moved it too close to the edge while I was scrubbing the desktop, and of course I didn't move it back because my attention was diverted by something or other.

I remember a pretty large quake back when I resided in Silly-Con valley. I was working on a one ton lens system at that very moment and came close to doing $500000 of damage, but managed to get my hands clear right in the nick of time. I had never been through a quake and ran to the door of the clean room and asked the other guys why they weren't trying to get out of the building and they laughed at me. I was expecting a second, worse quake, having little knowledge of how quakes are. I was genuinely scared, I can't deny it.

One time a quake hit while I was driving to work, about 5 or 6 AM, through the redwoods. I didn't know that it feels like you're drunk or passing out like, when a big quake hits and you're rolling down the road. When I got to work I told the boss and lead tech that something happened to me while driving and I felt dizzy or something and needed to see the doctor. They laughed and explained to me that a quake hit and my cars was weaving down the road from it. Doh!

Please don't send any quakes up here.

Stay safe.

Cappy, maybe Miss Nanners needs to be put on a diet?

Worked with a guy from Boston like that back in the mid 70's just north of Los Angeles. He panicked and ran around like a chicken with his head cut off tossing off orders when one of mid-sized ones hit. Was in the Navy at the time and got written up and had to go to captain's mast because I told him to chill instead of mustering under our multi ton satellite dish like he told me to. The only thing that saved me was 1. explaining how stupid that order was to the old man and 2. that I grew up in California..........

As I recall, it was less than a 5, but we were on top of a mountain and it was after midnight but before dawn.
