I moved to Seattle, and 3 weeks later there was an earthquake.<br><br>That was the first time I was above the second floor of a building during a quake. I had a 3rd floor apartment. <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/635815"><b>ghostpainter</b></A> : We suffered no damage at all and considering that we live in a double wide that is something, but I have all three units tied together, the third unit being our long porch.<br><br>The initial motion was a hard jolt followed by about 30 seconds of hard rolling then fading to about 3 minutes of swaying, but that could have been my Vertigo too.<br><br>The Ralph's Market on Baseline is reporting about $80,000 in damage from stock following off the shelves and was closed as is the Staters up on 19th.<br><br>Many homes had interior damage, IE computers and shelves tv's down etc etc. <br><br>At the junction of the 50 and the 57 freeways, there is now a 6 inch gap in the overpass to the eastbound 60.<br><br>Not to bad for a shake that would have been devastating in an area say like New York. He panicked and ran around like a chicken with his head cut off tossing off orders when one of mid-sized ones hit. Was in the Navy at the time and got written up and had to go to captain's mast because I told him to chill instead of mustering under our multi ton satellite dish like he told me to.  The only thing that saved me was 1. explaining how stupid that order was to the old man and 2. that I grew up in California..........<br><br>As I recall, it was less than a 5, but we were on top of a mountain and it was after midnight but before dawn.<br><small>--<br>I am not lost, I find myself every time.</small>]]></description>

I was working on a one ton lens system at that very moment and came close to doing $500000 of damage, but managed to get my hands clear right in the nick of time.  I had never been through a quake and ran to the door of the clean room and asked the other guys why they weren't trying to get out of the building and they laughed at me.  I was expecting a second, worse quake, having little knowledge of how quakes are.  I was genuinely scared, I can't deny it.<br><br>One time a quake hit while I was driving to work, about 5 or 6 AM, through the redwoods.  I didn't know that it feels like you're drunk or passing out like, when a big quake hits and you're rolling down the road.  When I got to work I told the boss and lead tech that something happened to me while driving and I felt dizzy or something and needed to see the doctor.  They laughed and explained to me that a quake hit and my cars was weaving down the road from it. Advising to NOT use cell service, (it don't work), but otherwise no serious injuries reported. <br><br>Many "after-shocks", 28 I believe was quoted. Diminishing in intensity.<br><br>Sounds like it was jus' strong 'nuff to get every ones attention, but not bad 'nuff to hurt anyone.
