Re: We just had a big quake here in southern Calif.

News says jus' a few gas lines broken, and a few small fires. Advising to NOT use cell service, (it don't work), but otherwise no serious injuries reported.

Many "after-shocks", 28 I believe was quoted. Diminishing in intensity.

Sounds like it was jus' strong 'nuff to get every ones attention, but not bad 'nuff to hurt anyone. Hope so!!

Stay safe Gary, and our friends in, and 'round the LA area!

Thanks, I have two nieces w/families living in San Diego and an L.A. suburb. I just know if I contact them, they'll yawn and say I worry too much.

I just had to know. You can't always tell by the number how serious the quake. There are all kinds and some with smaller numbers do more damage than some of the bigger ones. Depends on so many things, how deep and where it happens as well as how long it goes on and, yes, how intense are the aftershocks.

It was less than 20 miles from me as the crow flies. Minor damage from stuff falling to the floor.

You could avoid that by just keeping stuff on the floor, you know?

Many of us felt it down here in SD area but it wasn't much more then a slightly rolling feeling.

That's where I keep my clothes.

One of the items was a 20" CRT monitor..... it danced off my desk in the office.

Not pretty. Maybe strap it, like my gas water heater is strapped?

Naw, I simply stuck it back in the middle against the back wall where it's supposed to be. I'd moved it too close to the edge while I was scrubbing the desktop, and of course I didn't move it back because my attention was diverted by something or other.
