iBuypower vs. Cyberpower quality ??

I have been posting some questions regarding getting a new system to replace my trusty but aging DIY Athlon64 3200 box.

Some have suggested builders like iBuypower and Cyberpower, particularly when purchased through Newegg, would be good alternatives to another DIY box.

Any opinions or experience with these builders and their products. Took a look at the Newegg site for both, and the various build options they both offer look pretty compelling with name brand parts like ASUS MB's, WD HD's and Video cards going into the boxes.

looks like it could be a good way to go.

Opinions please

thanks

You can't get better hardware, so I think it just comes down to price point.

I don’t know about IBuypower’s quality but my 2 brothers bought computers from Cyberpower about 2-2.5 years ago. I think one bought an Athlon and the other a Pentium setup. Both work great and they are still using them today. They use it for light gaming, school, and surfing the web.

We priced it and if you select some of the quality parts from their site (pay extra for name brand RAM, HDD, etc) it comes out to about a $100 difference than building it yourself, plus you get a warranty. One of the things that helped them the most is you get a good mobo you can upgrade on, and not a micro mobo with an integrated video card. Also you get a fresh install of your OS without the extra craplets that others companies add at the store (dell, sony, hp, etc).

Of course the free mouse, keyboard, speakers will be cheap so you can take it off unless you really need it. They both bought monitors separate through newegg.

AFAIK iBuyPower and Cyberpower PC computers are still the same company. It looks like they have improved their Resellerratings.com rating in recent months so they have improved their customer service. I'd still probably buy thru Newegg for the hassle free RMAs.

I have a system from Cyberpower.
The case is pretty generic looking (black and silver).
The MB I selected is a MSI NEO-F (965?) and the cpu is a
E6300 (intel).
Mind you this system was purchased new about a yr and half ago.
It's really quick and very quiet.

The only issue I had with Cyber power, well 2 really, is that they sent the system to me (boxed nicely btw) but they never tested it. The system ( I ordered it without a o/s) would constantly bluescreen. Apparently the memory was faulty and it was like pulling teeth from them to replace/rma the memory.
Once done however, all was good. I eventually added more sata drives and upped the memory (via newegg/microcenter).

The second "issue" is that the tech people there are all Chinese/Taiwanese (?) and it was hard as hell to understand them. YMMV.

I've gotten systems from both, they seem to be the same company with different packaging.

The tech support was horrendous and their wiring jobs were absolutely piss-poor.

Decent prices though if you can't be hassled to build your own.

1 edit
I just got a computer from cyberpower. I was a little scared of some of the reseller ratings but they'd been improving and I took it as a good sign that they started selling them through other vendors as well.

Computer worked perfectly right out of the box and was basically the same price as buying the parts and assembling myself.

I was looking at both sites and I would assume they're the same company but they have some different configuration options and I got what I wanted for $50 less at cyberpower than ibuypower.

edit: i paid the extra money for "professional wiring" and they sleeved stuff and used cable ties to keep it out of the way. significantly better than what i would have done.

And if I open my heart to you, and show you my weak side, what would you do?
