| [Cam] "Possible Upgrade" K10D? or K200D?
Hey gang...
Looks like I was a pretty good boy at work and will be getting a decent bonus next month. As a result, I am looking to upgrade to a higher end camera from the Panny FZ20. You can see what I've been able to do with it here: »/pics/dimaging/691856 and here: »www.flickr.com/photos/kad_imaging/
Mrs. KAD Imaging does not want me spending over $500 "on another camera" which basically leaves me looking at the FZ50 which was my planned next upgrade anyway.
I ask because I may be willing to sleep on the couch a few nights to take advantage of the $$$ and go dslr. I'm not sure which one to go after though. I definitely cannot afford the K20 and even the K200 is a stretch around $800 but I figured I can get the K10 cheaper now and have "more camera" than the K200? Oh, and it pretty much has to be Pentax in order for me to not lose the IS functionality with is integral to my shooting style. I will be sacrificing shooting range though since I'd be stuck with the 18-55 for a while.

I think the K10D would work well in your hands. It should open up some new creative venues for you. -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted. |

Looks like I won't be able to push for the K10 due to a circumstance change that wasn't expected. The max, max, amount that I could do is $650. I then am deciding on the following?
FZ50 or E510\A200? Is it worth to get one of the "lesser" dslrs or just get the fz50 and wait to go dslr at a later time when I can swing it?? I did see on buy.com that they have the e510 with the 14-42mm\40-150mm shipped for $694 which would mean using paycheck money to add to the bonus money...should I consider this or not?? I'd have to uh, de-embellish the $$ and say it came in just under for this to fly also...
TIA for your advice. -- Like Cars? Visit: SportCompactMiami.com forums.sportcompactmiami.com blog.sportcompactmiami.com |

| Here's the thing. Are those the systems you want to buy into? Once you start buying lenses, it can be tough to change. Bodies come and go, but lenses are forever. As to the Panny, will it give you that much more than what you already have? If I were in your shoes, I'd take the money, hold onto it. If you can push for $700 now, it won't be long before your able to swing $800. Just skimp on a few lunches, skip a coffee, etc. It adds up quick. Then you can get whichever it is you really want. |

| reply to KAD Imaging I am a firm believer that ANY of the DSLR's in the $650 range can shoot great images - BUT, have you taken a look at the cost of lenses for the manufacturer you're thinking of going with? I only ask because you can get into another brand for little money but, damn, when it comes LBA time, you're gonna feel it bad in your wallet.
Last time I checked, Pentax had the best bargain in lenses. And offers a very complete line today as well.
Any chance you can just hold off a little while and make that $650 grow? That's what I would do. |

| reply to KAD Imaging Thanks for the replies guys. Here's the thing, money is t-i-g-h-t. I have 2 kids, one starting private school and the other will be in day care soon. I commute 60+ miles to the office and spend a decent amount of time in the field getting bent over by OPEC. This adds to big $$$ of which the "only" spare cash I have is this bonus and even with that Mrs. KAD had the whole thing allocated by bedtime the day I mentioned it. The extra $44 would come out my food\gas budget.
I protested that I need some of it for me since I busted my arse all year!! Anyways, I love my FZ20, it kicks azz, and I've taken some kick azz shots, some of which have matched\bested 5D's and 1DSMk's in some instances. The problem is the zoom on it is electric and is a little slow for shooting racing. I can nail 1 car for sure but I can't re-zoom and shoot as the zoom moves to slow. Also ISO400 is the max which is terrible but the ISO800 on the FZ50 is about the ISO200 on the FZ20 and that takes great pics with low noise. That gives me an extra 5-600 or so in ISO which will get me the few remaining shots I've missed. I also need more MP as the 5MP gets hard to enlarge past 10x13. With the FZ50's 10MP, I will get great 11x14's (I've seen them)
So my requirements for a dslr are:
-In body IS -Built in Flash -2.5fps or better burst -Kit with 18-55\55-200 or 70-300 package -The rest is negotiable
Pretty much it's a now or never as the Mrs. will not let me "hold" money that she can allocate to something else. If I spend it then that's, that. Thx again. -- Like Cars? Visit: SportCompactMiami.com forums.sportcompactmiami.com blog.sportcompactmiami.com |
