 Dumb

I really hope there is a customer revolt against Frontier. They seem like a small enough company that losing a sizable number of customers would have the potential to be fatal.

While I personally cannot stand the idea of caps on Internet access, I believe that if they have to be in place, then they should work like cell phone overages in the sense that most customers won't hit the cap. My primary objection is rooted in the fact that caps directly discourage ISPs from making network improvements because it is much cheaper to simply collect overages instead of spend money on upgrades.

Frontier is not that small. They're actually a nationwide company and in many areas if not all an ILEC. They service the small rural areas.

Well then I hope many more of their customers bolt. If anything, this would be a teaching moment for other ISPs looking to impose such ridiculously low caps.

Well, I pointed out that if I was subject to this sort of BS, I would probably just cancel any sort of "Internet Service" with them. There's no reason to pay for something I can't use.

WHAMMO! the nail has been hit on the head.

caps imply scarcity; if a product is scarce, more can be charged. If caps take root, there is little or no reason for any ISP to increase capacity unless they start losing customers in significant numbers.

caps are just a way to get more money out of existing infrastructure and customers without providing anything in return.

I just sent the "Corporate Communications" email links on their site a piece of my mind while being reasonable.

As well they should be. At a combined upload/download 5GB cap, they'd be better serviced by dial-up.

you could cancel your internet with them but in many areas they're the only internet provider. They're the only dial-up provider in many of the areas they service. So you'd have your choice of them, Wild Blue or Hughes Net

To me, you can't call something that offers a 5GB cap "Internet Service." I wouldn't pay any amount of money for it.

well then i guess you don't have to worry about that. But then again Comcast will hit you with one soon. But not as low. But still for the people that have Frontier and do cancel most of them do not have options except for Frontier Dial-up at $20+ a month, or Hughes or WB.
