| Frontier is just a Fairpoint wannabee
We also have Frontier for POTS/DSL in parts of Orange County, New York (including my town). They JUST started offering 3 MBPS down (up from 1MB) a year ago, and all their recent lousy promotions require a two year contract with a hefty ETF (in one case, it was $400!!).
They have NO FTTH/FTTN plans, and have been losing POTS lines left and right to VOIP and wireless. The exodus picked up BIG TIME when Time Warner rolled out the $89.95 Triple Play back in January, in response to the FiOS rollout in Newburgh; I was one of those. -- Don't pay ME back, pay it forward. |

I went to FTTH triple play because they refused to raise their download speeds. What a sorry excuse for a company. -- The weekend is here, grab a can of beer! |

| reply to Boomerang86 I'm nearby (Town of Woodbury) - and in '99 Frontier was the only game in town. Cablevision was dragging its heels. I stayed with Frontier far longer than I should have - but when Cablevision bumped their offering up to 10/1, and Frontier had just gone to 3/1, I left. Within about a year, OOL went to 15/2, and I added BOOST when it became available (30/5).
Now I've got a MagicJack, and am going to drop the 2nd Phone line I had for FAX/DSL - which I'd kept as a 2nd line/FAX option. The net effect is I have 30/5 uncapped (at least for the time being) internet service - at the same price I was paying for a POTS line with 3/1 DSL. No contest.
With this sort of crap, I may drop my main POTS line and go with Optimum Voice. As much as I can't stand the Dolans, and the thought of giving them more money is revolting, it's less revolting than funding Frontier's stupidity.
Anyone living in a Cablevision serviced area ought to bail from Frontier yesterday, if not sooner. For that matter, anyone living in a RoadRunner serviced area ought to do the same. |

| I've tried to port my phone number from Frontier and I couldn't. I chalked it up to Frontier's exclusivity on the prefix, mine being (916) 714. I haven't seen the 714 prefix being used for any telco other than in Frontier. I guess these smaller ILEC's do not have to give up their numbers, unlike well established baby bells who do. |
