5gb is low, but I would rather have 2 million customers that check their email once per night, and spend an hour on the web reading news, then 3 million customers, of which a third clog the pipes for everyone else. |

People don't just check their email anymore. Times change, and ISPs need to realize this. I'm not saying people should leave BitTorrent up and running 24/7 saturating the connection, but reasonable use including video (Amazon Unbox, hulu, YouTube, etc), downloading large files (software downloads), and other similar things should not put customers at risk for going over the caps and getting a huge bill. |

2 edits | reply to baineschile The point that everyone is missing is that the pipes should not be getting clogged. Internet access now days is essential. Unfortunately, as with almost everything else here, capitalism is running amok. I expect such shenaningans from cable isps as historically their model involved, and delivery methods supported caps. But with DSL, it caps itself by design. |

@cisco.com | reply to baineschile Damn, with that kind of cap you won't have 20 mil customers in the first place. You might only get 1 (which is YOU ). |

Your business with go down the toilet if caps are put into place. Just like what price of gas did to GM and Ford. |

| reply to baineschile Ok... are you worried about the last mile? or are you worried about Frontier's connection to the internet backbone?
Go on record.. you keep talking about "clogging pipes" .. it sounds like you know something... so.. what is it?
And by the way, if you, or anyone else, things the internet is about checking email, reading web-pages, pictures, and MP3s, and a few hours of gaming (which has another issue and shows lack of intelligence) then you truly have not kept up with the internet or evolved yet.
As for my point of gaming, and I am not a fan of online gaming, but many people are and it's PERFECTLY legal and honest internet traffic... BUT, they always talk about how many hours you could be online gaming with these caps. What they OFTEN *NEGLECT* to discuss is that in order to be able to have those 100+ hours of gaming time, they forget that you have to regularly update and patch those games as its just the nature of real time gaming.
I do see something good coming out of Frontier's announcement. While they are small, they are still significant in the overall game of broadband. This may very well be the start of honest reform of ISPs.
5gb - people get that from Sprint/Verizon/AT&T cards. What this could potentially do is open a new market for wireless providers in rural areas to ramp up operations there. In many cases, internet connections are superior to Frontier's connections where, in some rural connections, can't even achieve anything above 512k. |
