| Novice help for putting DVG-5102S behind a router
My current setup is this:
- Speedstream 4200 DSL (router but currently in bridge mode). Goes into... - D-Link DVG-5102S (Callvantage) router. Goes into... - Netgear 8-port switch
I would like to move the DVG-5102S down the line behind the Netgear switch.
How do I do this? What settings in what? I'm looking for novice instructions - I'm smart enough to be dangerous but novice enough to be stupid!
To do this, I'm guessing I need to turn the Speedstream 4200 back into a/the router and switch the D-Link DVG-5102S into some other mode (bridge?).
Not sure how to do this. Help? |

Put your DSL router back in router configuration. Let it hand out the IP addresses for your DVG-5102S. That is the first step.
Your 5102 will get its WAN IP address from the DSL and should then be communicating to the outside.
If you now want to configure the DVG-5102 so that you can look at it from the local network, then you will need to connect your PC to the LAN port on the 5102.
If you want to dig further into the device take a look at this link: »DVG-5102S firmware upgrade
And you can always ask for help again. |

| reply to EdMartin What I would do is...
Log into your Netgear switch and set it up for your PPPOE username and password from your DSL provider and save out changes.
Then I would set up the Dlink 5102s into its default settings of DHCP and save settings.
As long as you have the username and password for your DSL this should be the easy part.
Now just make sure you are going from Modem - Netgear Switch - Dlink TA.
Power up in sequence and see how the CallVantage service works without tampering with QOS or DMZ.
For the most part it works fine... If it doesn't, thats where it gets a tiny bit more complicated, but even a novice user should be able to do this worry free.
If there is any issue with the calls I would personally set up QOS if its available, otherwise DMZ all day. |

| When I tried what rsmith7 suggested, I ended up with outgoing call problems. Incoming were fine but outgoing would drop every time within 10-15 seconds. So I ended up having to reset everything and go back to the original config.
I'll try again and see if I can figure out QOS & DMZ. |

| JD: I set up my DLINK DVG-5102S behind my router and placed in my router's DMZ but I am still having voice quality issues. Provided below is the link:

Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Well that sounds more like local interference..
Have you tried to seperate your ATA from the rest of the equipment and try a reg corded phone...
It honestly sounds like an issue w wireless interference like in the other post you commented on.
I havnt used QOS just tinkered with it so I am not sure how to set your settings for that.
If you are geting noise on the line when you are on the pc, then sounds like QOS will be needed to prioritize your VOIP svc.
And a second note...
The IP that you set up in your linksys...
Did you base it off of the Default Gateway...
IE.. 192.168.1.xxx
and then go into the dlink and set it for static with that same 192.168.1.xxx
I like to use 192.168.1.150
Let me know if u need more.
Good Luck ! |
