Thunderbird mail recovery

Somehow Thunderbird lost all it's settings, and asks for settings just like it was first installed. Looking in the profile, I see some trace of my mail account. I'm hoping that I can recover my mail, and contacts list. Where should I start?

 Check to make sure you don't have more then one profile: »www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/profile

If you do copy everything from the other profile to current.
