I had to make up a lot of work this morning that was planned for the overnight hours.]]></description>

The Chicago POP was not impacted, only Elmurst in the Chicago area.  If you were authenticated and had a session up it wouldn't have dropped.  However, you wouldn't have been able to get TV or internet services during the impact time.]]></description>

Why was it started before  midnight?  That answer didn't come out this morning, but it will be addressed later this morning. As stated, it was a large outage impacting more than the Elmhurst POP.  DNS and authentication servers would have been impacted as a result.  <br><br>nwricket,<br>Since it appears you did not reboot your modem, you kept your PPPOE session to rback10.  However, anyone that rebooted their modem would not have been able to authenticate until routing was resolved.]]></description>

For if it were, then the problem would not have started till after midnight.  It hit here a little before midnight.<br><br>2:  It was not an auth server problem.  We are still connected via the PPPoE session started on June 26th, so we should not have noticed an auth server problem.  But we sure noticed this.<br><br>What did happen?  I don't know.  It seemed to be a major router outage.  As far as I could tell, my packets were not getting out beyond the AT&T network.  I could ping rback10 in elmhurst (where I am connected), but could not ping any public site whose IP address I know.<br><br>A router outage would cause DNS problems, authentication problems, etc.  But those would be consequences of the outage, rather that the cause.<br><small>--<br>AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0</small>]]></description>

It could have been purely coincidental that you made the change about the time the Indianapolis area was being restored.<br><br>Edit: I should state that all impacted areas should be up at this point.  You may have to restart your modems if you have trouble connecting.  However, if you are still down after resetting your connections, it is likely a different issue from the larger issue.  ]]></description>

Was on hold  for one hour. She knew nothing of any service outages. Went through the script.... 25 minutes later she informed me there was a network outage that she just became aware of. She said it was not scheduled and it was a pure coincidence the outage happened at 12:00. I suppose it was another pure coincidence when service was restored a few seconds before 2:00am.]]></description>

After a reset or 2 then checking the modem it seems the PPPoE Auth. server wasn't answering. But as of 1:30 it back up again(hence my post). Thankfully was only out for 90 mins.
