yock : It isn't strictly under $300, but I just picked up the GPSMAP 60Csx for $299.99 + shipping at Amazon.com

Garmin has a number of base map options, none of them are "World" (I don't think Garmin offers a World base map) but they do have an "Atlantic" version that would have GBR. It's also much more expandable than other units, favoring MiniSD memory over internal expansion memory so you have pratically infinite map expansion options, one of which is a world map that can be had for less than $100.

This is the Americas version, not the Atlantic version. FYI.
Garmin link
Amazon link

MidrangeMan : I'm going on a UK & Ireland vacation in a few weeks and need to get a new GPS.

My current Magellan SportTrak Pro is pretty old and I think it needs to be replaced.

I've been looking at the various units available ... but would appreciate some advice.

Ideally the new GPS would have ... a world wide basemap (as apposed to a NA basemap), good battery life, geocaching support, and cost under $300. Camera, flashlight, and wireless transfer are unimportant to the point of being contra-features.

Any suggestions?

david
--
Expect me when you see me.

Need a laugh: »www.userfriendly.org/static
