| [Speed] What's up with Insight???
Anyone else in the Lexington area having issues similar to this?
Download speed - 9932kbps Upload speed - 30kbps (yes 30kbps, and that's one of my faster tests, it usually averages around 10kbps)
(I'm unable to upload a .jpg as proof, because it stalls out at 18%)
This is with Insight's 10.0 broadband service. I noticed a serious latency problem the other day, but thought it might have been something with my router. I swapped it out with another one I had, same thing. I then tried going straight from the modem, same thing again. Another computer, same thing. After running a speedtest, I found the problem. My upload is darn near dialup speed. I spoke with technical support yesterday for about 45 minutes and he had me try everything again (powering off, straight from modem, resetting modem, etc). Finally he told me that he just noticed that they were doing maintenance on some equipment near the area and that might be the cause. He asked me to call back the next day if it still wasn't working. Well, same thing this morning, so I called back and was told that they are now upgrading their billing system and that they couldn't help me with anything until its back up, which she said should be sometime tomorrow. What the #@$@???? I've had several other minor issues with Insight over the past year, but nothing that I ever felt like logging on and posting about. This one seems a bit ridiculous though - not providing any type of support while their billing system is being upgraded for a couple of days...
I guess I'll go without until they can straighten out their mess. All of the download speed in the world doesn't do me much good if my upload speed is pretty much non-existent. If anyone else is having similar issues, I'd like to hear about them. | | lilhurricane Crunchin' For Cures Premium,Mod join:2003-01-11 Purple Zone clubs: | There's a thread here regarding that area

| reply to pezcal What part of town are you in? I'm South Side ...
They are coming out again this morning for the second time in two weeks. Very frustrating I know, but when it's fixed it's fine ... I just can't get them to acknowledge there's an issue with my cable run ... I am on the very end of a line that they say should have been replaced on the build out to 10 mbs, but obviously was not ... The RG-59 is really old according to the techs.
And to top it all, it's raining today ... and that guarantees low speeds. ====================================================== New tests in other thread | | LexCamino

| reply to pezcal My wife and I live on the South side of lexington as well, and our problems and the time frame involved follow the OPs almost exactly, including visits from their techs.
The only thing I can say is, well..the day before they started their inhouse billing & customer acct stuff....I had called in and asked about our internet dropping on us and if there was maintenance going on and they said no lol...hrm....in the entire citywide area. >.>
We've got some decent speeds, a bit faster than I'd expect especially during peak hours (22.6 down, 1.3 up on the avg)...we're just getting massive disconnections....the kind where the modem stays online but nothing responds. I've checked our router setup a gazillion times and went straight to the modem a half a dozen or so right as our connection started to wig out, same thing, nothing makes a difference.
The only thing I noticed is the Downstream and Upstream signal strentghs and that they would fluctuate quickly, or what I'd consider to be quick. during and after each mini-outage (more up than down). Oddly, they are "within specs" accoring to their phone techs when i call in the middle of an outage...but they dont sit here feverishly like I do watching it happen.
Up would be say 45dBmV and all is well and it's exactly 6:35:20pm ...and at 6:35:56pm it goes to 51dBmV and the internet is unresponsive...and refreshing all pages as quickly as I can, at 6:36:02pm it's back down to 47 and everything works fine yet again....rinse and repeat. Everytime our upstream signal goes higher than 49dBmV in under 30 seconds, bham, no net. If it goes gradually, and takes a few minutes to fluctuate that much, we get some slight latency until it drops again, but that's it.
As I mentioned, I've tried with and without the router, and have even used several difft routers in several difft. configurations to verify.
This boggles me something fierce. I'm used to having the modem reboot or atleast try to recycle either the U/S or D/S signal when something happens signal related. Maybe those ghostly maintentance techs that were out and about earlier seriously screwed something up, or forgot to seal a box before closing it up....and we're dealing with the rain and humidity throughout the hot/cool/wet/dry stages of the day....that'd make sense to me.
Good luck, I'll try to repost if something new comes about, have a tech scheduled for this Monday...going to twist his arms to replace our drop and check all the ports on the tap...who know, maybe the squirrels are getting rambunctious in the area. | | LexCamino

| Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that this intermittent loss of internet seems to peak during two parts of the day and settles down in between....dusk and dawn(ish). When the sun starts to rise and finally peaks over our yard, we lose connection. Slowly starts to come back as it gets sunny and hot outside, followed by random infrequent disconnects throughout the day. Then right before the sun sets up until shortly after it sets, we lose connection again as if it were going out of style. Now, if it stays warm outside, say above 75 we continue to lose connection throughout the night as we did during the day....but last night it dropped down below 70 and we didn't lose connection once...until this morning again.
To narrow 'our' area down even further, we live in the Open Gates neighborhood area accross from Ky Util. It's a fairly large neighborhood area and I've yet to hear of anyone else complaining of their connections....but it'd help if I actually asked someone. | | daveinpoway Premium join:2006-07-03 Poway, CA | What are your modem's signal levels at various times during the day? If they are varying (which they probably are), it sounds like you need a tech visit. | |
