| Series Manager not working - show title > 20 chars long!
I called and reported about my series manager not working on shows like PTI and the daily show. I had 2 techs out, one placed the DVR then the otther showed up and told him it was on IMG issue. Their is a KNOWN issue after that last update where series manager will not record shows with more than 20 chars in the title. PTI and the daily show fully spelled out is over 20 chars.
I did see a number of thread on this issue, but wanted to post so all out there would be aware of this issue.. |

It's easy for me to be amused because I gave up on their DVR long ago in favor of TivoHDs, and so I know how it sucks when your DVR doesn't do its most basic function properly. Still I couldn't help laughing...sorry. |

| I don't blame ya. I also have debated going to TIVO over this Motorola crap. Or even going back to DTV. For TIVO, I just hate having to invest $200-300 for a unit plus the $12 monthly fee. But it might get me to the ebst of all worlds. I just wise Verizon would find a better solution then these Motorola piece's of crap. |

I had the DVRs before the IMG 'upgrade', and they only once missed a recording when the title of the show changed in the guide data, and the software didn't recognize it as the same program.
It wasn't until the IMG upgrade, that all my recordings became unplayable, new recordings would randomly record only 1 minute of the show, and the box became completely useless as a DVR; because I never trusted it to record things when I wasn't there to make sure it would...
$250 for a Tivo, plus about $6/month for 2 cable cards, plus the $12 Tivo Subscription. But compare this to the $12.95/mo DVR rental fee, and it's really only a few bucks more per month. Which for the assurance that recordings will almost never be missed, makes my $100/month TV bill worth it. No I don't work for Tivo. |

| reply to tew1165 Hardware/Software, the DVR funtionality still stinks. It does seem worst with latest upgrade, but I had problems before that. I'm just saying that having a TIVO and DTV-DVR in the past, IMHO I had better luck. I'm just reporting my experience. I think its good to report, maybe Verizon or someone will get it right with the working IMG, or other piece of hardware. I'm happy for those that love their FIOS DVRs. But their are us that aren't happy and it's mostly because we have had better luck with otehr DVRs in the past. As stated, I just hope Verizon can get it right in the near future so we all can be happy. If not, then TIVO is an option. |

| My whole take on the TIVO vs. any CableCo DVR, is the fact that TIVO exclusively designs DVR Hardware and Software.
Its going to be tough to beat the quality of that experience. Their only goal is to provide an excellent DVR system and experience. The guide data, reliability, flexibility, usability.
Verizon is into tons of different businesses. And as the TV provider, their DVR is only 1 component of so many that they must focus on. It probably isn't their top priority. Couple that with the fact that they really aren't a software company, and they're coding for hardware that is already built that they cannot change or modify; and you end up with something less than optimum. |
