| High Latency Cogeco DNS Server
Just wanted to point out that Cogeco's DNS Server "kenobi" is racking up some high latency.

| I know one of the DNS servers was on the fritz not too long ago, was randomly not responding to requests and such. May have been this one, though it could have been one of the others.
This is all the more reason why you should run your own DNS server -- I swear that I will faithfully and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen. |

Yea, we got that from your other endorsements; however Cogeco's other 3 DNS servers are considerably faster than OpenDNS' third party, filtered and moderated DNS... and personally I prefer to use 'local' DNS servers. |

| reply to Airwolf Don't know if this is related to your problem or not, but I had the same slow page loads in our area. Called Cogeco, and the recording said there had been an "outage" last week sometime around here, and the fix was to press the RESET button on the back of the modem for about 10 seconds. Seems to have helped here...FWIW |

As far as Cogeco's DNS servers being faster, not from what I've experienced. |

| Ah, okay, I saw two threads where you suggested it, the other being not entirely helpful, so I figured you were trying to shill it.
In any case, you might feel warm and fuzzy when you use OpenDNS, but Cogeco's servers are at least 1/2 the time of OpenDNS's which you'd expect since they're more local... OpenDNS's server is about 10 hops or so, so that makes sense.
I can understand if, for whatever bizarre reason, you're having difficulty with Cogeco's four DNS servers that you might want to use an alternative, but speed definitely doesn't play into things. |
