One thing I tried that works wonders is to hook up my old 19200 baud modem and set to auto answer incoming calls during the day time. This drastically reduces the number of unsolicited calls in the evenings after a couple of weeks.

I signed up for Michael Geist's I-Opted-Out back in March, and, seriously, I've not had one telemarketing call since. It really is a superior service.
