| mountain is terrible
I really dont think I can think of any other "high" speed internet company that is slower then mountain cable. I moved into an area that had mountain cable, so I really did not have a choice in the matter. I lived in an area that had cogico before and I was never disappointed in the speed at all.
I have had to put up with this so called speed for over a year now. I live in caledonia and i really dont have any other choice, their is no way i would ever switch over to bell. What are you supposed to do?
are their any other options out here? when is mountain cable finally going to do something about their speed, if anyone in that company knew how to do a google search and read some reviews about their product they will find that the majority of the reviews reflect the same as mentioned above.
very disappointed..... |

| reply to nothappy You probably think that mountain cable is fast because you have never seen anything else. the only way you could ever call mountain cable fast is if you were compairing it to dial up, and MAYBE bell. Mountain is faster then bell, no question about it, but when you look at the big picture mountain is half the speed of its compitition. |

| reply to nothappy I've been on cogeco and mountain - my mountain service has been more solid, no question... Speed wise, I have no complaints - mind you I have the business version, I don't know if that makes a difference. -- P.S. Did you ever notice that Peter O'Toole has a double-phallic name? |

1 edit | reply to nothappy Yes its half the speed, but its also unlimited, usenet access included, no modem rental, no throttling..
Competition: Bell/Wholesalers:slower, caps, throttling, usenet extra.. Cogeco: Faster, caps, usenet only 3 day retention, throttling, more money..
When I look at the big picture, I am satisfied with 6mbps. If they wanted to they could easily add another tier like they do for their business packages, but thats their decision, maybe if you get a lot of people to email them about adding a faster tier. If a lot of their customers want something, they'll usually do something about it. -- Success is measured by effort. Discover Hamilton |

| reply to nothappy true, some other isp's do limit you to a certain ammount that you can download, but that limit is usually pretty high.
In the end moountain is still one of the slowest ISP's out their, after all its called HIGH speed internet, and mountain is just not competitive in the speed department when compaired to others. |

Well, when all they have to compete with is Bell, who, to the best of my knowledge, has poor CO penetration on the mountain, there is no real reason or competition to make them consider an increase their speed offering. |

| reply to nothappy needless to say, they should do something about their speed, even if their direc competition is not as fast as them. They still have to understand that the rest of the world is moving forward and they should seriously contimplate following in their footsteps.
I am sure that they also understand that the people that they are servicing really dont have much of a choice either, so there is no fear of leaving due to a better product, thus their is no urgency in improving their product. |

| I have mountaincable voip and high speed internet and it's the best service yet. Cogeco is slightly faster, by a few hundred kb/s but there is no usenet service availible. Mountain gives you free access to Usenetserver (UNS) which is a 14.99$/mo value. I pull 700kb/s most days and 650kb/s average which I am very happy with. I also average 100GB/month downloaded on average, with a peak of about 500GB in one month. Cogeco started sending me emails after I hit 200GB download in one month, telling me to get rid of any P2P service I am using or I will be blacklisted and my internet shutdown permanently. Mountain = #1, Anyone that lives in their service area is lucky to have access. I'd much rather have 700kb/s down and free usenet than 1mb/sec down and have to pay about 20$ per month with tax for usenet.

| reply to nothappy STARTING EARLY IN NOVEMBER, MOUNTAINCABLE WILL BE INCREASING OUR SPEEDS AGAIN!! THIS WILL BE THE SECOND INCREASE IN BANDWIDTH IN A YEAR!!! UNLIMITED DOWNLOADS AND 8MB SPEEDS CANT BE BEAT, TRY THAT WITH COGECO!! THEY GIVE YOU 60 GIGS A MONTH, SURE ITS FAST BUT EVEN POP UP ADS COUNT TOWARDS YOUR TOTAL. IM AN EMPLOYEE AND USER, MOUNTAINCABLE CAN NOT BE BEAT. |

| Ok.. so you are an employee and a user, and tout this as a good thing, but you post anon and in all caps, curious.
FYI, your upload speed AND download speed are still below Cogeco's, some users need more bandwidth, some don't, like me, and I'd still like to see faster speeds, (not that I am complaining about a 2mbps bump).
Finally... if you think any user is going over their cap due to pop-ups ... you my friend are in the wrong industry. Period. |

| reply to nothappy I've been complaining to mountaincable for over a year to get them to boost up the speeds. In an age of HD movie rentals and downloads via Xbox 360 and soon the playstation network, they really need to start at least trying to catch up to the rest of the continent. Sure north america is slower compared to the rest of the world, but Mountaincable is slower even still compared to the rest of the slowness.
And please dont use the usenet as a selling point for mountaincable. While sure it beats the 3 day retention of Cogeco, the retention on mountain is only 30 days, limiting you to only recent posts. And you mention that it saves you the 14.99/mo for usenet access seperately, but thats not the case, as if you actually pay for usenet access for 14.99/mo you get 100-200 days retention, and a MUCH higher completion ratio than mountaincable. 10 connections vs 6 connections. When I download something with mountains usenet I absolutely NEED the par files because guaranteed there will be 6/50 files that are broken and need to be fixed. Paying for usenet its 99.99% completion rate, I only ever had to use pars once on something really old.
Long story short: some of you people havent been looking around at what steps the rest of the country has been taking in terms of internet. Hell even around the city, Mountaincable is now the slowest of the three companies, with cogeco and quickclic at 10mbit/1mbit, a standard speed. While I cant speak about the bandwidth cap on cogeco, I know the one on quickclick is rarely if ever enforced, its a soft cap I think its called. My friend on QC does over double what they say they allow and hasn't recieved any emails or fees about it.
Then theres the cable lineup itself, specifically the HD lineup that mountaincable is starting to fall really behind on. But thats a topic for another day I suppose. |

| I love how people are bitching about 7mbps. Get bell I had 100kb/s when they were not throttling.
What are you doing that 7mbps is not enough. An 8 Gbit movie file can be downloaded (maxing the connection) in 20 minutes. That is fast enough to view while downloading.
If you want super fast internet go buy some fibre and stop bitching and moaning about a great service at a great price with no contracts. |

@mountaincable.net
| Firstly, HD content is not 8Gbits. its 8Gbytes. Big difference. And downloading the average HD movie from the 360 marketplace = 2-3hrs. Not to mention game demos that are getting larger and larger. Digital distribution from Steam for entire games.
7Mbit was cool 2 or 3 years ago maybe, but these days, it's just not even touching the average bar set by the rest of the country. |

| I'm happy with the service - it's solid/reliable and I've never had any slow downs. Customer support has been there when I need them and I have no complaints.
If you're not happy - you have a choice... go with DSL and good luck with that.
