1 edit | reply to Daemon Re: [iPhone] 2.0.1 is Out!
said by Daemon :It seems like almost everyone has backups that are taking hours to complete, looking at this forum, as well as macRumors. What's interesting is that my backups have never taken more than 2-3 minutes, and I have ~100 contacts, 100s of emails, 100s of calendar items, and about 15 applications. I wonder what the difference is? Mine still takes a while also...odd. |

| reply to nickelman I got it installed without problems as well. My conservative estimate on how long the backup took is 6 hours. SIX.
I hear that's fixed with this update though. Haven't tried another sync because, well, I didn't have another 6 hours to wait around so I could take my phone out with me.
So far, so good. I haven't run into any problems. -- I r a lolcat. |

| Wonder why some backups take so long. My whole upgrade took about 10 minutes from start to finish, and everything was restored.
Now backups take about 25-30 seconds and entire sync takes less than a minute. Less than 1GB free on my 8GB iPhone. |

After I woke up this morning I was greeted by an error message saying the phone couldn't be activated because of an error. Turns out that the SIM lock interfered with activation--once I entered the code all was well and the update was complete.
So I don't know the total time for the upgrade, but I went to bed about 12:30 AM and the backup was not even an 1/8 of the way through. When my head hit the pillow it had been about 9 hours (started at about 4:30 PM).
I can't see what's different on my phone than others that I've read about here. About 15 apps installed...about a gig free.
I've noticed about 2.0.1 that they've "fixed" the cache issue in Safari. Now all it does is it takes a snapshot of the page you were last on when you go to another page. So now all eight pages will show up (just like in the commercials!!), but the catch is that when you go back to a page it refreshes--the page just doesn't pop back up (just like in the commercials). So it's a shitty workaround, but it gives the illusion that it's working correctly. -- "When the day comes that anyone can bend our country's laws and lawmakers to serve selfish, competitive ends, that day democratic government dies." -- Preston Tucker, June 1948 |

It is strange that even having 8-16GB of space you still can't have a reasonable cache on the standard browser. |

I still would like to know if anyone gets Name resolution on text messages from people that are not in your contacts. Other phones do it - why don't my iPhones? |

1 edit | I'm liking this firmware a lot so far. Not a single crash of anything since updating, and everything is quicker. Also the battery life seems improved, usually at this time around 11pm I'd usually be in the red, but the battery bar is showing just a little less than half battery left. Maybe the old battery bar was inaccurate, and this fixes it.
Backup is a lot quicker, about 2 minutes. I'd really be pissed if it was taking hours like some unfortunate folks here... Stupid question, but I assume you are using USB 2.0 capable Macs, right? I wonder if PPC/Intel matters.
For the record I'm syncing my iPhone on my XP machine, simply because I wanted a separate library for just the iPhone. iPhone is hooked up to the USB port of my Dell 30" monitor. -- ,,!,,('-'),,!,, |

Both my old and new iPhone use to take like 2-4 hours to do a Backup. Now it get's done in less than a minute.
Also, when copying large amounts of music files to my iPhone, iTunes doesn't become unresponsive anymore. The app use to go dead and I couldn't tell what the progress of the transfer was.
SWEET! |

1 edit | reply to nickelman Anyone's edge turning off while watching YouTube then getting the message that you need a wifi or data connection to watch videos?
My edge seems to be turning on and off now (the "E" would just disappear when this happens), and the only way to turn it on again is to open safari. So I get a chance to load vidoes for about 10 seconds then I lose connection to edge.
Is this some new thing apple implemented to save battery life? Cause if it is, it's complete crap.
EDIT - Ok, now edge is just turning off randomly even in safari after about 10 seconds of not loading anything, then if I click a link or try to load a new page, it tells me I don't have service, then about 5 seconds later edge shows up again. The only way to keep edge going is if I constantly load things in safari. WTF
