 | I had it installed a week and a half ago in Staten Island. I was literally the first person to get it.
I love it so far. HD picture is a lot better in terms of no longer having audio dropping out or random pauses like I did with Time Warner. There's a ton more HD channels too. I got every single channel they offer and Im paying about 20 dollars less then Time Warner *and I didnt have nearly as many channels*
One thing I noticed last night is just how much better SD looks. Standard Def programming is way, way better then what I was getting with TW. I watched Ferris Buller in SD last night and it looked almost HD.
My only gripe is that the install itself took like 6 hours, but thats because I was sort of a guinea pig and the techs didnt know what they were doing really. I bet by now they've got it mastered.
If you have other questions, feel free to ask. Loving it so far! |

I bet by now they've got it mastered. Yeah, like down to about 5 hours! Don't feel bad, it's a long install for everybody. -- Vigilance is to be on guard for the unguarded moment. Diligence is to know that it's coming. Paranoia is to think it's already came. |

 | reply to oxfdblue MSG and MSG Plus are only available in SD on FiOS TV but not in HD because Cablevision won't let Verizon have those channels in HD along with Cablevision-owned HD channels AMC, IFC and We TV (those 3 channels are available in SD on FiOS TV but not in HD). |

RolteC0h join:2001-05-20 Fresh Meadows, NY kudos:1 | Had mine installed this Sat morning. SO far, picture perfect HD channels and movies.
Bad part, internet is now going crazy and VOD gets choppy/pixels stopping constantly. Tech is actually here, and no change in anything even after a change in equipment/resets. |

Sounds great. Did you already have Fios internet? I do, so I'm assuming my install should be shorter.
One other question- do we get MSNBC? I know they are providing it in other non-Cablevision territories in NJ. VZ replied to an email of mine saying that Staten Island would be getting it...they never said when though.
Thanks.

| reply to oxfdblue I had my fios TV install yesterday in Canarsie, Brooklyn. I cant complain the picture quality is amazing. My appointment was from 1-5, the technician ending up coming at 7:00pm. It was a quick job for him since I already had the phone and internet and existing cable outlets. It took him an hour and a half to install all 5 boxes. Just crossing my fingers that they wont screw up my bill. |

 | reply to Roche1972 Im sorry for misunderstanding, I meant how is the SD Picture MSG and MSG Plus ? Thanks |
|
 | reply to oxfdblue SD picture quality on MSG and MSG Plus is very good. The same can be said about the picture quality on all other SD channels that Verizon carries. |
|
 | reply to Buglewe I highly doubt that hour and a half for five boxes. Just using the sunrise meter testing each coax outlet, plus checking every subscribed tv channel as you are supposed to do, not to mention if you got any high def boxes it takes about 15 to 20 mins just to get those initialized and activated. Of course maybe he just said screw it, ur coax looks good, threw ur boxes up and activated without doing all the proper tests that he was supposed to do.
Techs are averaging about 3 to 5 hours on 4 box addons without having any coax, splitter or other video related issues. Thats for Video only addons.
A full triple play with 3+ boxes is anywhere from 6 1/2 to 12 hrs depending on the number of boxes going in and depending on any testing issues if all lines are tested properly and ends and splitters changed or homeruns ran to eliminate pixel/chopping or other picture issues.
If your tech is not doing these things then he is not doing his job and whereas you may get lucky and get a good install, chances are that when there is a problem, it will be a nightmare to troubleshoot if a bunch of shortcuts are taken. |

jdrtech join:2004-08-01 Ridgewood, NY 2 edits | reply to oxfdblue My install was canceled on Saturday aug 2nd, because no verizon techs showed up to work, but i was able to talk to a verizon manager in nyc and offer to give me a 100 dollar amex gift card and put me on a install date aug 17th which is a sunday, they opened sundays installs to customers effected by the work shortage due to the union contract talks. Does anyone know if verizon has the fios tv setup at there kiosk at the staten island mall? |
|
 | reply to oxfdblue I'm also in Staten Island, and had my TV installed last week. Bozer is right with the SD looking alot better, I had a old TV that looked horrible with TW; but with verizon it looks 100x better. I think my install took about 3-4 hours. Would have been shorter but they messed up my order 5 times and even when the tech came to my house his worksheet for my order was completely wrong. |
|
 | reply to Onieyes I sure know that the technician did not pass 9:00pm because he had to do other installations in the area. |

Hound7 join:2006-03-08 Princeton, NJ | reply to billy2 MSG and MSG Plus picture quality on Verizon is very good and a big improvement over Comcast. However, I was so used to watching hockey and basketball in HD that I ended up getting Directv as a second service in addition to Verizon primarily to get MSGHD, MSG Plus HD, and MLB EI in HD. |
|
 | reply to oxfdblue Yup. I had internet already which is why the long install surprised me. They were having a hard time activating the TV boxes. The problem was my tech wasn't in the system or something like that, so you shouldn't have the same long wait I did. They can actually use Time Warners coax cables for your FioS boxes so there isn't any wiring needed unless you didnt have some sort of cable before I guess. |
|
 | reply to Hound7 Is MSG SD and MSG Plus SD on FIOS better than Time Warner since being on Staten Island. I read its better than Comcast on here., but I dont have comcast. What about DIRECTV and Dish and Cablevision . I am hoping for MSG HD and MSG Plus HD on FIOS. I am On Staten Island , and my install is August 20 (2 Weeks from today). Any word of any at all of Staten Island programming on Verizon FIOS TV?
Thanks for all the info you guys provided Billy |
