This is pretty much a done deal. Will announce Mediacom and BTN deal on Monday. Its all over the news in Des Moines.
I hate the B10, but maybe finally this will die. |

If were not in agreement in what the terms are, its hard to imagine it will be done before kickoff. |

| reply to garn91 said by garn91 :I think a deal will get done, probably something similar to the Comcast Deal. Verizon's FiOS and Midcontinent in Sioux Falls, a small cable co. serving the Dakota's and western Minnestoa, inked a deal for the BTN yesterday or today. said by Anonymous :Nope. Stupid regulations. The company, Citadel Communications I think, has the transmission rights to ABC in those areas. That's why Mediacom could not feed FOX in Des Moines, IA from somewhere else because Sinclair had the exclusive rights in the area. A lot of people switched and Mediacom was forced to pay more money. Sinclair started it and now all of them will follow. Get ready to pay a lot more for otherwise free programming. I guess that's the price of convenience... Midcontinent Communications will add the sports channel Big Ten Network to its lineup beginning Aug. 15, the company has announced.

Dish Network in a programming dispute isn't earth shattering news, Charlie Ergen, Dish Network's CEO, is a major league cheap skate. |

| reply to OldCableGuy no, they were not able to pipe in another station...
And KGAN is not their biggest market.
Des Moines and surrounding areas is Mediacom's bread and butter, their largest market.
As I said before KGAN was a small portion of the dispute. Overall there was 22 channel affectin MILLION of subscribers nationwide. Not all of them had lost CBS |

@planetcr.com | reply to burner50 KGAN is one of their biggest markets. Most of the other rural markets like DSM and the like it was my understanding that they were able to pipe in other stations. Not so in Cedar Rapids... |

Mediacom had little if any option regarding Sinclair. Remember, KGAN was carrying the super bowl and is a Sinclair station in Cedar Rapids. There would have been mass customers moving to Dish / Direct had they not caved the day before. I remember Mediacom was giving out free rabbit ears and also free pizzas to customers who wanted to eat in a bar where the game was being shown. Remember that KGAN was a small portion of the dispute.
In my area it was a FOX station, In others it was ABC.
I WISH mediacom had stood up to sinclair and held out past the super bowl, if they had we may not even be in this mess with BTN. |

| reply to burner50 If mediacom caves then I will be ticked. That is why the US doesn't negotiate with terrorist. It will just keep happening again and again..
If the Big10 would shut up and put their product were it belongs then everyone wins. Then the Big12 puts there station on the same way. If I had to pay extra money on the basic plan for a conference I don't like then I am going to be upset. |

Mediacom screwed up when they allowed Sinclair to push them around. BTN Knows they have no balls. i think mediacom will cave at the last minute. |

| reply to wth said by wth :Same thing happened to WHBF (CBS) in the Quad Cities, by the same station owner also. Yep. It was a few stations actually. I'm quite ticked. DISH could at least put up an ABC feed from somewhere else couldn't they? While we wait for WOI, etc. to wake up.
Stations that were removed are:WOI-TV Des Moines Iowa; ABC affiliate KCAU-TV Sioux City, Iowa; ABC affiliate KLKN-TV Lincoln, Neb.; and CBS affiliate WHBF-TV in the Quad Cities -- \m/(-_-)\m/

| reply to acoustix said by acoustix :I called Mediacom repeatedly over the winter, spring and summer and told them that they had until Aug 1st to announce carrying the BTN or I was leaving. I ordered DirecTV service on the evening of July 31st and will be canceling my Mediacom service. Thanks for not listening to the majority of your customers, Mediacom. Do you have a survey of Mediacom customers that confirms your assertion? I don't have one but I would be very surprised if a majority favors carrying the BTN if there is a price increase. -- Save water...drink beer! |
