USA HD

With the Olympics starting on Friday has anyone heard if USA HD will be added in Philly?

Not one peep Pats.

No word of analog moves, new HD's nothing. It's almost frightening. If what was stated in the Central PA thread is true - looks like box inventory is too low right now to do anything big.

It sounds as if Mojo HD will be pre-empted from 2AM-2PM each day to simulcast the USA HD feed. That was reported by someone over in New Jersey.

It's funny how the city that Comcast is headquartered out of can't even get channels that the majority of Comcast areas have. Something is not right.

I was told that the channel will not be added for the olympics. Perhaps they will pre-empt Mojo like they are doing in some areas.

They can afford a new skyscraper and a gigantic video wall in their lobby, but they cannot figure out a way to provide somewhat decent HD coverage in their "hometown"? Way to go, comcrap.

Actually, Comcast did not pay for nor do they own the building. The building was planned and they agreed to move in and be the largest tenant, and the building was renamed Comcast Center at that time. In fact, $30M came from the State of Pennsylvania. Tax dollars at work...

Even if they didn't pay for it, they should be ashamed and embarrassed that their own hometown market is so behind with its channel count. *Edit, if anything Philly should be the shining example of future tech and so on..

I bet you anything their overpaid money hungry execs live on the Main Line in huge mansions with nice little DirecTV dish's on the roof...

LOL, oh I totally agree that Philly should be the primary market. I'm sure they have Dish's on the roof. Have to keep up to date with the competition!

take a look at your digital cable guide. on mine, MOJOHD (206) has listed "Summer Olympics" every day for the same blocks of time that USA has "Summer Olympics" listed. i take that to mean that indeed, i will have USA HD oylmpics programming on channel 206 (on comcast union/verona NJ)

Yup, that's been established that on our system at least they're pre-empting MOJO every day from 2am to 2pm for USA-HD.

Comcast should be working out of warehouse space in South Philly until the ship is righted and video subscribers
are added again for six straight quarters excluding acquisitions.

Classic sign of a troubled business.
Continuous loss of market share in its largest business segment and move into
palatial headquarters with fancy video wall. Even though Comcast did not build
the building, the leasehold buildout and monthly rental
must be expensive.
With the continued loss of video subs,
Comcast can only cover its expenses and increase earnings per share by raising
cable rates. With raising rates, Comcast has hit the law of diminshing returns.
As rates are raised,
subscribers leave. There is no money to upgrade the Phila system. Shutting down
analogs puts Comcast
between a rock and a
hard place. There are
many analog subs that are complacent about changing providers and will never upgrade to HD. But those subs will gradually go away over the next ten years. Subs upgrading
to HD are looking at the other video providers. Comcast has to make a decision. Bite the bullet, upgrade its entire system and get rid of all analogs or continue to lose market share.

Apparently no one has noticed that Comcast is changing its core business from cable to phone and internet. These are much more profitable, as they use the existing infrastructure and have no ongoing programming costs. They charge almost as much for these services as they do for cable. Look for bandwidth to be freed up for more internet and phone, and oh BTW, if you want cable TV, they have that, too.
