I simply used the same SSID as the Netgear, and all my wireless devices came right up.

The user name and password are on the side of the RG, and allows you to set it up as you see fit, including changing the password.
anon : I just got u-verse yesterday and the wireless connection is the most stable I have ever seen. My RG is down in my storage room and my computer is upstairs in my dining room. It picks up either "Very Good" or "Good." My ibook also picks up good reception, but I use that downstairs so I expected that. I also have a wireless music bridge which plays music from my computer through the router and onto the stereo in the other dining room. With my old router it used to pick up a maximum of like 62% and that is when the router was only a room away. With the Gateway which is downstairs it picks up 80%. Plus, I was surprised to see it worked with the RG. I didn't even have to plug it into the RG. I just setup my RG to my old network SSID and password and it picked it up and connected. I have a question, let's say in a year I like the gateway and the internet and I want to drop the TV. Would I be able to do that? Would it cost the same amount as regular DSL?
