What about the REMINDER function on the DVR? Is that FINALLY coming too? Any idea? I thought that was fixed with the last minor update to 1.5 (don't remember the build number). I'm pretty sure I checked it and it worked - setting a reminder causes the STB (if turned on) to tune to the reminder channel. -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

| reply to IMG 16 Nope....no reminder on m DVR...and I have 1.5.0 release. I do have reminders on my non-DVR box....but I want a reminder on my DVR..I don't like to waste recording space on a program I MIGHT like to see....just a reminder to check it out.
Heard it was coming ... but no more.

On the web site ... do your STBs show up at all (ie, do you get a list of your STBs ... but they aren't accessable?) ... or do you get nothing / no list?.
Yes they do show up now, which is an improvement over last week when they would disappear from the page as soon as I logged in.
According to the FAQ section, the site should ask me to 'register' my HDDVR when I log in. It's never done that and I can't click on either STB that shows up on the page, they're just static pictures listing the ID's of each STB. |

Supposedly, the advance ability to stream any audio and all video content that's on the internet to any television in your houses that is connected to Fiostv is anytime now. Anything from net radio to clips and even full length movies will be available anywhere that you have a tv hooked to Fios with HMDVR and requiring software for internet and tv hookingup. No extra strung wires across thru houses just internet on tv streaming. BS Is this internet video/radio feature for real? The website only mentions that you can stream .avi or .wmv files. If you can stream internet video this would be fantastic! |

My understanding is that there is a trial of this function going on, and that it will hopefully be available "soon." |

| wow that's amazing. I'm so glad I'm making this switch. Time warner called me back today to ask why I was cancelling and the girl actually tried to sell me more service. I laughed and told her everything that I was getting from Verizon and the price and she said "wow". I couldn't help but think of the fios commercial with the family and their pets all saying WOW! |

| Some people have seem to differing opinions on this. Some may point out that with all the channels FIOS TV offers, and with Netflix (it's working again) and Blockbuster, there should be plenty to watch, without watching things from the internet. But, that ignores the fact that there are many things on the internet that you can't watch anywhere else. And, will look and sound better on a nice TV,
And, some point out that if someone really wants to watch internet content on a TV set, there are various ways to do that. Indeed, a site »zipityzap.com/pctotv.html tells of different ways to connect your PC to your TV- using cables and wires (if you have a video out and your TV isn't too far from your PC), or using a wireless box.
But, if someone has the multiroom HMDVR with Media Manager software already on their PC, and Verizon says it will offer PC to TV streaming yet this year, why mess with the other troublesome and expensive options? Mark F |

Alternatively, if someone already has a media center PC hooked up to their TV and local network with expandable disk and a PVR, why bother with renting Verizon's DVR/Media Manager? |

| Of course, but if someone doesn't have a media center PC (I sometimes wish I did),then waiting for Verizon's upgrade that allows PC to TV streaming seems like a good idea.
Say someome misses an episode of Lost on ABC. The next day it is available at ABCs website. But, it would be better if you could watch it from your couch or recliner on a big TV, rather than sitting in a desk chair in front of a PC monitor.
So, if someone doesn't already have the ability to do that, then Verizon's upcoming upgrade may be the way to go. Especially since the Multiroom/Home Media DVR is only $4.00 a month more than the HD DVR, and you get so much more for that 4 bucks, such as watching DVR'd shows on other FIOS-connected TVs in your home and the Media Manager software (soon with PC to TV streaming). Just because the box can record...doesn't mean we should los the functionality of a REMINDER --- something offered in the cheaper/non-premium boxes...
I would have thought that was obvious...apparently not. |

I would have thought that was obvious...apparently not. So get a cheaper box and be happy. The function makes little sense on a recorder for most people - it never existed in the old IPG and probably will never exist in the IMG. The function on a non-DVR allows unattended channel change for VCR recording. -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

| I agree with Anon2 that the reminder function is a significant feature that is lacking on the FIOS DVR. That was one of my main complaints when I converted from my local cable system. Its very frustrating and annoying that I have to "record" shows on my DVR, to be reminded of them. These are completely separate and disparate functions, and Verizon needs to fix that. I like to scroll through my guide each day, and mark the shows I want to watch. I guess there are varying opinions on the importance of this feature, but to me its very key. |

1 edit | reply to IMG 16 Bug with "Modes" in IMG 1.6
Here's another annoying bug I found as start using the "modes" feature more and more. The "modes" feature let's you select one of these groups of channels to flip through: All Channels, In HD, Movies, Series, Kids, Sports, News, and Information.
If you're already in a "mode", say Movies, and you right click to bring up the "modes" menu again, you correctly see Movies still selected. If you click on OK at the point (e.g. don't change "modes" and the visual cue still has the green OK next to Movies), you've actually turned off all modes and get your default channel flipping (e.g. favorites 1 for me).
I think you should still be in Movies mode |
