Summer Olympics: Soccer and Basketball channels anyone?

Did anyone got them? They are not here in NJ II/Union... I thought they would be broadcasted in place of the 2 SD NBC sub-channels, but nothing so far, the weather one is showing weather, the other one, is showing some crap paid programming - thankfully, there's online streaming....

I thought the Olympics don't start until Friday night?

Also I thought Comcast was going to use VOD as it's primary delivery method for extra Olympic content.

Have not shown up on Comcast of Somerset.

Verizon has them as full time HD channels. Both appear
in my Verizon channel
guide. Verizon also added USA HD and CNBC HD to the mercer county channel lineup even though the Mercer County 100 plus HD channel rollout is not scheduled until 8/27.
Soccer starts today.

Dish Network and Directv are also adding the soccer and basketball HD channels. Both Dish Network and Directv provide USA HD and CNBC HD.

I read that Time Warner and Cox are providing the soccer and basketball channels.

Comcast cannot compete. It has no answer or solution to
lack of bandwidth.
Yet prices are the highest in the industry with the line that they provide more value for the subscriber.

I just rang Comcast and they were rather nice but had no idea what I was talking about - I told them it was on the NBC Olympics website and all he could find was our local channel NBC 11 in Minneapolis - he talked to some other group and they had no idea either ...

Oh well looks like no NBC Olympic Soccer channel in Minneapolis

I discovered these 2 channels last night. They had color bars running, since the programming hadn't started yet.

Re: Summer Olympics: Soccer and Basketball channels anyone?

it was true at the time I viewed the channels, which was around 7 PM last night. Right now I am at work, so it's probably no longer color bars.

Just had an email back from Comcast saying MSNBC would be covering the soccer !!!!!

So I emailed back with a listing from the NBC Olympics site showing that these two channels do exist.

Where is Comcast putting the Soccer and Basketball channels? Are they in HD, SD, or both? Just want to know where I should start looking.

You probably already know this, but NJ II will be receiving the Olympic basketball and soccer channels in HD "soon". They'll be on ch. 182 & 183.

Is there anyone on this forum who actually works for Comcast in the Minneapolis area who can answer the question if we will get these or not -

I have tried twice but both times was told that the soccer is available on MSNBC and I pointed them to the website and they even quoted a list of channels on which we can get the Olympics including the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel and the NBC Olympic Basketball Channel - but still said ignored the query as to when or if we are getting them -

I would appreciate any help -

FWIW if you go to the NBC Olympics website and put in our zip code 08830 the NBC Basketball and Soccer channels do show up for us.

sansri, it's been like that for over 1 week. That's why I tried to watch earlier today Brazil x Germany match, but I could not find any channel broadcasting it. At least, I was able to watch it online.

Do you have an official press release from COMCAST stating that they would be providing these two channels? I know about NBC's press release and what has been reported on blogs, but have you heard anything directly from Comcast, because I haven't.

@att.com

I was looking for those channels too. I've read that comcast has signed up for these channels, and (if what I heard in another post here is true) we're getting USA-HD for the Olympics, which is part of the package, then I would expect to see the soccer/basketball channels. i would assume the test pattern yielded to actual soccer action today (my dad with verizon fios could confirm - he had the test patters at least 10 days ago). but i don't trust comcast to deliver anymore, and it's things like calling in and they don't have any idea what you're talking about (i remember doing that when SNY lauched in 2006, getting different answers). i did see a test pattern running yesterday on channel 980 or something (listed as special events and showing on a 3rd channel their beloved CN8). maybe that was for the olympics.

dyhrdmet

@att.com

it would also make sense for comcast to post announcements like this, and other channel changes, on their "messages" screen on the guide for the cable box. that seems to be the most obvious place for people to see announcements like this, but all i see there are announcements for new movies, free previews, now hiring, or other things that benefit comcast directly and solely.

I'm the phone with Comcast right now. So far the person has not heard about this channels. I told them that Comcast had said they were going to carry these channels during the Olympics. At that point the rep started to tell me about coverage on other NBCU channels. On Hold......waiting for an answer....

UPDATE- 28 minutes on the phone, and the same old news. I was just told about "all of the great On Demand coverage"...still on hold.

UPDATE- Rep checked in at 33 minutes and said that they were still looking for more info. I gotta say, it was nice to get the check in. By the way...officially the worst on hold music ever!

UPDATE- 42 minutes. After "looking and asking around" the rep couldn't find any infomation at all about these channels. The rep said that they would "keep looking" and give me a call. The rep did say that Charter would carry the channels. I found that slightly odd.

Hopefully I will find out more in the hours to come.

@comcast.net

oh man, is this gonna suck. i found a post at engadgethd.com (»www.engadgethd.com/2008/08/05/co···overage/). it outlines comcast's and charter's coverage, and if you read between the lines, we won't have the soccer and basketball channels, and some of the items mentioned in this thread were also mentioned in the engadgethd.com post. remember, everything's online, most of the important matches/games will be on channels that we actually get, and a lot of it happens overnight. now if they have a hockey channel for the vancouver games in 18 months and comcast doesn't give it to me, i'll be really pissed.

US vs Norway in Women's Soccer on the UHD channel here in the Houston area. I think I heard/read the Basketball is going to be on USA(HD).

Both channels are on here in Baltimore. Soccer is channel 221 and basketball is channel 222. Nothing but color bars on basketball but the soccer channel had today's games. Right now it says next broadcast 5am.

nbc's website lists our zip code as having them (or getting them). I hope so, I'd watch a lot of the men's soccer. It looks like the US will get coverage on UHD but I'm interested in the rest as well. I guess we wait and see if it shows up.
I don't remember if we even have the bandwidth for anything new around here though...maybe cypher can chime in.

Comcast of NJ II will have these channels added before Saturday. Been confirmed by sources.

Re: Summer Olympics: Soccer and Basketball channels anyone?

Comcast began adding some HD channels around midnight here in southern CT. SNYHD was added and the two Olympic channels have also been added, both in HD. The channels are now mapped in the guide but the signal is currently out during this transition.

They showed up on my system as 182 and 183, but they both say they are off the air.
