| reply to Travelfan1 Re: Summer Olympics: Soccer and Basketball channels anyone?
Another waste of 20 minutes on Comcast Chat - this time I was told that all soccer matches are simulcast on other channels - I even provided them with a nbc listings page of the channel line up - and he quoted me the wrong channels - I really have no confidence in them at all - an account executive is going to call me back !!!! |

| reply to Travelfan1 For what it's worth, according to a Comcast rep I talked to today, not everyone in New England will get the two Olympic HD channels. He said there were bandwidth limitations in certain areas, but the decision was made to add the channels where they felt they could.
He didn't know if this was the case throughout the country. |

| reply to Travelfan1 Comcast is going to have NBC HD in some areas that may already have it. For everyone else, if there is bandwidth available for 2 HD channels, they are going to setup 2 temporary HD channels which will have 24/7 broadcast of Olympic Basketball on one channel and Soccer on the other. The channels will be gone when NBC broadcast of the Olympics ends. On-Demand will have all Olympic content in HD the following day of the event. So 1 day delay in On-Demand but full coverage will be available at least and in full HD.
As more channels are moved from analog to digital more HD channels will arrise including eventually NBCHD channel, and many others. It is just a process because of the ammount of Standard/Basic1 cable customers still around. Many of them as most of you probably know don't want to have to change to digital. Even though most of Comcast's competition (ex. verizon fios, at&t, etc.) are already 100% digital. Being 100% digital, they have the space/bandwidth to have more HD, more digital, more channels total. -- BSD |

| No Olympic Basketball or Soccer Channels on Comcast here in Philly. Here's a rather ridiculous e-mail exchange I had with a Comcast rep. They're so lame that I'm still not sure if I got the right answer.

This is quite possibly the most ridiculous e-mail exchange I've ever had (and I've had a lot of them) Why would the Olympics be televised on ABC, CBS, ESPN or any of the other networks you listed? In case you didn't realize, NBC is televising the Olympics. I'm sure you're a decent guy Mike, but if Comcast isn't willing to give you the info to a simple question or if you don't want to bother researching it, that's fine. At this point, you're just making yourself and the Customer Support Center at Comcast look silly.
If you do somehow find the answer to the question of whether the Olympic Basketball Channel will be offered on Comcast, feel free to e-mail me back.

@comcast.net | is there any other advantage to getting the stb, b/c previously i had it b/c the comcast guy told me that it was the only way to get hd, but i found out that my tv could pick it up automatically, so i returned it |

| It depends on which level of service you subscribe to. We have Digital Preferred with 3 premiums + 2 HDTVs so it's definitely to our advantage to have an HD STB.
If you only want your local channels (CBS, FOX, NBC, etc) in HD then you don't need an HD STB. If you want other channels such as TNT, TBS, HD Theater, in HD then you would want to get an HD box. |

| reply to Travelfan1 We have them on channel 208 and 209 in Princeton, NJ. Comcast is full of surprises. But Verizon, Dish Network and Directv have the channels as well. I watched soccer on Dish Network last night. Dish was replaying the games on its soccer channel. The Comcast channel only had today's schedule showing. No replays. |

| reply to Travelfan1 Well that is that I guess - we won't be getting them in our area as it is a marketing decision - I was told by an Account Executive who actually called back - that Comcast do not have the bandwidth to offer the channels as they are only available in HD - I told her people wanted them in HD and that it was available in other markets and she said all I quoted were out east - and kept repeating I understand your frustration,
What a load o ComCrap
btw we are Minneapolis - and she said most markets will not be carrying them |
