said by neil0311 :Nothing new here in the Atlanta area. Just Universal HD and USA-HD with coverage in addition to NBC HD. I don't have those channels here in Atlanta either. I'm surprised as it seems to me they could have used the one or both of the two HD channels used for the Braves home games. Comcast Atlanta has been good in the past about temporarily adding HD channels for special events, such as the NCAA basketball playoff games. But they really missed the boat for the Olympics. |

1 edit | reply to Travelfan1 Going back and forth between OBASK HD 183 and the local Philly NBC affiliate WCAU HD 232 during the USA vs China men's basketball game it was very apparent that 5.1 digital audio quality was noticeably better on the OBASK feed, not to mention that OBASK showed replays and other continuous coverage during the network commercial breaks on WCAU. Picture quality was similar to my eyes (using components cables). |

| That doesn't surprise me that the direct feed was better than WCAU's. WCAU heavily rate shapes on older equipment with that NBC Weather Plus sub channel. I think they are in for an equipment overhaul in September or so when they finally go HD with their newscasts.
With channels 87 and 88 appearing as "Empty" on my system, I'm surprised they didn't use one of those carriers for the two Olympic HD channels. I realize all frequencies are reserved for certain purposes months in advance, but to temporarily use one channel for a few weeks should not be a problem, unless they will actually be allocated during the next few weeks time frame (which I seriously doubt). |

| reply to Travelfan1 One of the times I actually enjoy being with Comcast NJ II...we actually got something that some other systems didn't!
At least for me, Basketball HD looked about the same as WNBC-HD. Maybe a little better, but about the same. |

It was only the 5.1 digital audio that was noticeably superior as heard through my surround system. Don't know about WNBC because I only get the SD version but the digital audio seemed a bit processed and compressed on WCAU HD. FiOS in my area carries both WNBC and WCAU in HD so eventually I'll be able to compare those two network feeds. |
