Video conferencing

Is nice I suppose, but to be honest, in most situations, is there really a need for this?

Many of my conference calls have shared desktops or whiteboards, so it's easy to present to people in several areas at once. Once in a while, someone will give a presentation where there's a video feed, but only rarely is that particularly useful.

Meanwhile, video conferencing still doesn't provide the same "bandwidth" (for lack of a better term) that real face-to-face meetings do.

I personally think we'll continue to see growth in teleconferencing and shared workspaces. You'll continue to see business travel for critical meetings. Between the two of those, the gap where video conferencing is a viable technology would seem to be rather small, driven more by memories of those videophones on the Jetsons than any real need.
