For the past few days I've been downloading some large software packages, and running right to "5%" of my "bucket".
Right around 360meg per day...
I haven't been FAPped yet.....
I'll just keep my fingers crossed I guess...!! | |

| Yeah, unfortunately they kinda seemed to have mixed it in with other "things" as to not bring attention that they were going to lower the limits.
Pretty unfair. It's too bad they aren't increasing the speeds all around, though you'd hit that lowered FAP even faster.
I wonder if I'm out of my contract yet.... I should check on that. | |

1 edit | Like many, I do large downloads mainly during FAP-free time, but I would be curious to know if anyone can confirm the limit has been lowered.
(I'm on Pro Plan)
EDIT: Confirm by other than what is posted on their web site-they never seem to be consistent in what "they" post.

I would like to inform you that the threshold limit for KA satellite (HN9000 modem) is reduced from 375MB to 300MB, however the browsing speed is increased from 1000Kbps to 1200Kbps. The download threshold limit for Professional Plan in KU satellite (HN7000S modem) is the same 375MB with the same browsing speed. I am sending you the information about FAP and the service plan. | Yeah, but the thing is, is that it is already MUCH lower than it is "advertised" to be during the "Peak hours". So really, I don't think there's much more Hughes can do in terms of this kind of thing and helping congestion.
Good ideas: Acquire more Satellite space on other satellites, but make sure the gateways aren't as overcrowded as they are now.
Although, today at 2 PM PST *During Peak hours* I downloaded something at around 90-100kb a second (FF3 for Windows), so that wasn't bad and it surprised me. | |

| They can't legally lower your throughput/allowance if you signed up before the new rules went into effect, right?
You would be technically "grandfathered" in and not be subjet to the new limits.
I heard it's illegal to alter the agreement/contract in any way later on down the road. What you signed up for when you signed up should be what you always get or else Hughes is in the wrong.
Does this affect the Pro-Plus plan or anyone who signed up before the new limits went into affect?

| Hughesnet has been a nightmare to deal with. I keep passing my FAP limit and then I can't get on to finish my online work for the day. I spoke to their technical support and I got a "kind" indian man on the phone and couldn't understand most of what he was trying to explain to me. I spent about an hour on the phone listening to him read his instruction manual to me and I almost lost my mind. This type of service sucks and shouldn't be legal. I heard that the reason the FAP limit is there is because they have a limited number of satelites and they're trying to add on more and more customers to rip off. Why do all of you use hughes? The reason i do is because I'm out in the middle of nowhere and can't get cable or dsl. Is it the same for you guys? | |

| Re: FAP Limits Lowered? Actually they can't. What you got when you signed the contract is what you should always get, they can't alter or change it further down the road by law.
So if you signed up for a 375 MB threshhold and 1 megabit download speed, you should always get that since you would technically be exempt from the new limits as you signed up before they went in effect.
If Hughes is ignoring this, talk to the consumer protection division, FCC, FTC, and your Attorney General. They should not be able to do this
