Who knows, really... It could be the tools given to the developers to access the GPS are limited, or Apple's built in coding for the GPS chip sucks...

Maybe for a dedicated GPS NAV app like from TeleNav or TomTom, they will give those devs special access to the raw GPS data, who knows...

What applications tell you your MPH and altitude?
There are a couple of "Speedometer" type apps, one is SpeedBox the other Speed.

Both vary greatly in accuracy, eventually showing close enough speed if driving at a constant speed. Nowhere as close as the speedometers in a dedicated GPS system though, those are bang on from what I've seen.
Is that due to software or hardware?

Definitely not, as it has no GPS chip, just cell tower & wifi triangulation.

So my gripe is about the wildly inaccurate GPS feature of the iPhone. None of the apps that are either free or fee are at all useful because of the lack of accuracy. Point being, using four different apps, all fee based, none was able to give accurate headings, altitude, or speed.

As an example on a recent hike I was walking 387 MPH and reached an altitude of 1842ft with a heading of West. All the while walking into the rising sun in New Jersey!

Now who do I talk to about getting my money back for the bogus apps and false advert?
