www.cox.com/facts/default.aspTop 10 Satellite Myths
Myth #1: You get more channels with satellite TV than with digital cable.
With Cable, to match the number of channels DTV gives you in their mainstream packages, you would have to spend a fortune.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #2: Satellite TV offers a better HD channel lineup.
Cox can't touch the HD numbers from DTV. And while some of those channels are not HD all the time, if Cox were to add the same channel, they would get the same content. They have not even added most of the channels.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #3: Satellite TV offers more for the sports fan.
Everything Cox is bragging about here, DTV has. DTV has every sports package available, NFL, NHL, etc Networks, and the exclusive (yes Cox, exclusive) NFL Sunday Ticket. So yes, they offer more for the Sports fan... especially the NFL fan.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #4: Satellite TV is less expensive than cable.
On average, the average Cox customer still is on analog cable so their bill is in the upper 40's probably. Back when I had DTV, DTV for all digital was cheaper than Comcast for all analog. Even now, this is comparing apples and oranges. People who want the additional channels, features which require digital will spend more for it on cable.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #5: I can get video-on-demand service with satellite TV.
This is true, but I have had VOD for years and never use it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #6: Cable companies raise prices more than satellite TV companies.
Cable companies raise prices just as often and as much. Difference is that Sat is starting from a lower number. Advantage Sat TV.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #7: Satellite beats cable on reliability and picture quality.
When cable goes out, it could be hours. Rain fade is a 2-10 minute thing in most cases. When I had DTV, it might have done this 2 times a year. When I had Comcast before that, I once lost service for 3 days.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #8: You can get local weather on the 24-hour weather channel with satellite TV.
True, but have you ever heard of the Internet? Also, things like the Wii now also show weather.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #9: It's easy to install a satellite dish and all of the related equipment.
Duh - Free installation. Why is this even on here? Back about 6 years, I installed my own dish. About 4 years ago, I moved my dish. Its not rocket science even if you need to do it. Basically if you can read a compass and plug in a coax cable you are good to go with the instructions. But 99% of Sat customers choose the free install.
Cox grasping at straws here big time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myth #10: Satellite TV is a one-stop shop for entertainment and communications services.
