| [hard drive] swapping hard drives
trying to swap hard drives from one computer to another. one is a HP and the other is a DELL. both have XP Home. The DELL has XP SP2 and the HP has SP3. Both computers work fine, the reason for swapping is the DELL has faster processor and more memory. Now for the problem, by the way both drives are SEAGATE. when I install the drive out of the HP into the DELL it doesn,t boot-up to windows,it just has a flashing cursor. Made sure jumpers were correct and drive was master. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

2 edits | reply to rockinhand SEAGATE brand has nothing to do with it in this situation, the interface is, however, since you can install it, the interface on both laptop should be the same.
I would speculate on that it does not even finish POSTing cos "may be the recovery/diagnostic partitions are not the same as expected".
It is generally a NO-NO to swap HD between 2 different sets of hardware. You may run into more problems than doing it normally. i.e. make 2 respective OS images and than restore them respectively,/strike>.
-- I used to be indecisive, now I am not sure. |
