If you folks can give me a link on how to open a laptop up that would be great, I am a noob with laptops.

The good news is that if it needs a new fan/heat sink he will not charge me for labor and he will even let me buy the fan from some where else (I already found one on Ebay) and he will install.

I am just so pissed for not doing this myself, but now I know and knowing is half the battle. I mean $70 (non refundable) just to take a can of compressed air and spray!!! The problem with some repair place is that, when they find a problem (relate to your complain of cource), they will fix it, then if it seems OK, they will stop (may there be more than 1 causes).

The overheating may stem from dust, thermal paste, ambient temperature, were you put your laptop and any combinations of the above (plus whatever I forgot to mention). I'll take it back and tell the FRY's guy that he didn't fix it and tell him to give the laptop another BLOW (a blowing job), then reapply some thermal paste.

For the past 4 weeks it shuts down by itself. I took it to Fry's Electronics, they took it apart and found lots of dust, so I assumed it was a heat issue. I took the laptop home and turned it on. After 20 mintues the screen went blank, the laptop was still running, but I had to shut down. This morning I turned it on at 11:25 AM and it worked fine untl 2:30 PM.

What could be causing the laptop to shut down?

I have two screen shots of the temp of the CPU when I 1st turned on the laptop and the temp about 2-3 hours later.
