question about TV's and pulluting on the screen

this will more then likely get moved but..

anyone know why stations are now polluting the screen?
it's getting old and we don't care to know what comes up next.

i noticed bravo HD doesn't do it except for their logo.

but Scripps networks (HGTV,DIY) and travel networks are two of the biggest networks ever to do this practice.

we need to create pop up blocker for tv!

Lets see. I can add a few more. USA networks, TBS, CNN[you actually have the sidebar then a crawler on bottom and watch the content in a window], Animal planet, CNBC. . . . .

To keep people from taping shows to resell as original broadcasts, or place on Youtube.

and to make it easier to identify the station across multiple broadcast streams.

Nah.

This is about advertising to a captive audience. It will become more egregious as the use of DVRs continues to spread.

Has nothing to do with your thinking, it is what has been talked about over and over, and as I stated before.

So all of those ads for new shows, upcoming shows, and the like that the OP mentioned are solely a part of a strategy to thwart piracy?

Always has been, and always will be. It is about Viral Marketing, and the fact that it keeps people from trying to pirate a show and illegally distribute. The same if a photog was to Watermark their photos, or place their business card in the corner of a photo to keep someone from going to Walgreen's or Wal-Mart and making copies.

I'll grant the logos may be part of that anti-piracy thing, but it seems to me that the endless on screen plugs for upcoming shows and whatnot follow the growing trend of contextual advertising within the shows themselves (that always clumsy moment when a character holds the Coke can so it is blatantly visible), a trend started by raw greed but accelerated by the use of DVRs and the ever magical fast forward button

Name one show that isn't available on mininova.

No he is talking about those ad's that advertise shows coming up in the future. Not the station logo. I hate that as well while your watching something and have the bottom of the screen shows an ad for "The Closer" season final. But get use to it. It is advertising for them and I doubt it will ever go away.

Only way to enjoy a movie is on a dvd/blu-ray.

One "good" use of that polution, running the ending show's credits there as the next show is starting.

The other shit should be eliminated.

but it won't. maybe when less people watch tv it will change.
an example of this is abc family. "the secret life of the american teenager" pops up while i was watching the edited version of spaceballs the ad filled merchandising version where the real money from the movie is made - thanks, mel

one would think in the era of digital tv the info would be displayed upon request..

thanks for the responses. looks like i posted in the right place for a change!

Ad's are here to stay. Just like ad's in video games now. In fact the new Rainbow Six game connects to the internet and updates it's ad's in game.

(the picture was breaking up due to the station being 60+ miles and computer QRM)
