Re: MagicJack Error Broken Storage

So what might "jtagged" mean to *us*? Were you able to format the 2nd USB drive created when the MagicJack USB-to-RJ11 ATA adapter was plugged in? The 1st USB drive is the install/reload drive that runs autorun.exe. The 2nd USB drive is the data store (contacts, call logs, favorites). Format should not be listed in the context menu for the 1st USB drive but should be listed for the 2nd USB drive.

The MagicJack adapter sucks up to almost 500ma from the USB port. All USB ports come in pairs because each USB controller provides 2 ports but both of them share the same 500mA maximum current load. So don't plug anything else in the paired USB port to the USB port in which you plugged the MagicJack. You cannot have an unpowered USB *hub* sitting between the MagicJack and a USB port on the motherboard. The power from the controller will feed through the unpowered hub but may not be sufficient after losses to power the MagicJack adapter. There are crappy unpowered USB hubs and there are good ones. Most are crappy. If you don't have enough USB ports to allocate a paired set of them to the MagicJack adapter and must use an external USB hub, it must be a POWERED hub. That's not just a problem with the MagicJack. Many USB devices will not function when connected to an unpowered USB hub, and they may try to draw too much current. Some devices consume more than 500mA so they either have their own power supply or you must use a powered hub.
