| Re: HD Replacements When Olympics Are Over? Not here. There are some frequencies recently freed up by moving analog channels to digital. I suspect that as soon as the Olympics are over, they'll start engineering a new use for this bandwidth, either new channels (I'm hoping for FX HD) or other new services or service enhancements needing bandwidth. | |

2 edits | It's only a few weeks, some areas are using a temporary reserved frequency for these two HD's, but after they cease broadcasting, they will go back into 'reserved' state for future SDV or DOCSIS 3.
A lot of the frequency maps (whether currently occupied or NOT), are already reserved months in advance for certain services, or even as temporary migration slots for major QAM restructuring that cannot get done in one nights maintenance window.

| Re: HD Replacements When Olympics Are Over? I suspect the 3:1 muxing, in cases where bandwidth is available, is a product of the fact that that is how those three channels are delivered to the local head-in, from the HITS. There are a lot of considerations, all the way through the delivery chain. | |

1 edit | Re: HD Replacements When Olympics Are Over? Could of fooled me, posting in the Comcast forums!
But I was going to say, you don't need HITS "Headend in the Sky" for 3:1. Much of that comes straight off the CRAN in multicast digital video streams pre-packaged and all ready to go. The headends just pick off the multicast and convert it to RF.
But if your TWC, that explains the *different* 3:1 muxes. VS Golf, History and USA together eh? Hows the quality? Wonder if they are using the Imagine Communications encoders over there at TWC.
Oh and I remember you said they upgraded to newer Motorola nodes? That's interesting, I would of thought TWC would pick Scientific Atlanta, exclusively. All TWC plant's I've seen use SA line gear.
