I don't know where your "myth" comes from, but it is a myth.
First, if you already have a dynamic IP service, then upgrading to a static DOES NOT require a truck roll. Only if you need additional wiring (or problems in the wiring) does a truck roll become necessary !
Second, in most areas, you can get DSL for the first time, and not need a truck roll. AT&T (and most competent carriers) can provision the line within days. In the meantime, they send you the modem, and you can do the rest. Again, if you need some wiring done, then a truck roll is needed.
Third, I have a static IP at home, so if I have to pay "business rates", then so be it.
Of course AT&T tried the "truck roll" with me, and I KNEW it wasn't necessary. They did all of the circuit work in the CO and elsewhere, and I rebooted by modem. Works just fine for me !
Yes, we know AT&T & SBC are the same...PacBell (the old Pacific Telesys) Ameritech (Illinois & Michigan Bell), BellSouth (the old South Central Bell)...They're all one big happy family ! |
