I want to drop a new HD in my Macbook Pro and it has Microsoft Office on it. How can I get Office onto the new HD without the original (lost) disks? -- ................... |

| The easiest way is with time machine. Just image the entire old drive, put the new drive in, and then restore from the backup.
Or you can use something like superduper or carbon copy cloner to make a copy of the new drive on to the old drive.
If you try to simply drag the applications from one drive to the other, it may work, but IIRC, there are OLE components and other things installed on a system level that will prevent them from working correctly. -- -Ryan sig for sale! Only one previous owner, lovingly cared for |

| There are several ways to do it, all depends on what you have available. The two basic approaches are:
- boot computer with both drives attached and use Disk Utility to copy old drive to new drive
- make a clone of old drive and restore to new drive
If you have a spare external case (FW/USB/eSATA) then swap drives, put old drive in external case, boot MBP using Apple Install DVD, then use Disk Utility to clone the old drive to the new drive. I've got a $10 PATA/SATA to USB adapter and it isn't fast but I don't have to mess around with an external case. |
