Extended battery has more cells - more cells = more voltage.

I'm assuming that the machines(or the battery itself) have a voltage regulator or circuitry to limit voltage so that machine gets the proper power without frying.

Not vouching for this place either way, but hell, just do a google for Dell D610 battery...you'll get a multitude of choices...

Although one might prefer ordering straight from Dell, on batteries, the OEM's IMHO, charge too much, you can get just as good a battery at a better price elsewhere.
