bluescreen03 : Orion,
The two points of upgrade was true in the past, but changed as of a few years ago. I've proved it out to several unbelieving techs, the change was something that went through unnoticed, why would anyone notice, right?

I would probably change out the filters as the tech was hinting towards, but not remove them, replace them. I'm sure you can get your hands on some, lots of folks have them. I have seen filters go bad several times. Try unplugging one phone & it's filter from the jack to see who is the offender(s) first. If nothing changes, then you'll need to look for other reasons.
--
The flat tax would be so simple, you could fill it out on a post card. A post card that would say, in effect, having a wonderful time; glad most of my money is here. ~Steve Forbes

orion940 : There are two profiles, as explained to me, managed by two different groups. They both got to be set to 6M. But why getting the second one right is beyond me. When I upgraded to the 6M package, it took a thread in here to get it right. Other's have had similar experiences.

It sounds the second one isn't right in your case. My suggestion is to see if the ATT Direct forum guys can't help or MrFixit even.

O.
--
In Windsor CT, Home of The Decorative Zamboni

dcrockett : I switched to the 6 meg version of the ATT service about a month ago. I began doing speed tests to test out the connection speed and the max I seem to be able to get even on the NY ATT Speedtest site is about 3.5.

I called ATT and went through the horrible first level support who told me I had line noise and there was a problem with my line. He put me over to the line support tech who was unfortunately very rude and told me he saw nothing wrong with my line, but was only able to see a maximum speed of 4 meg and couldn't explain why.

He then told me that I should remove all the filters on my lines because he believed they were causing the issue. I called him and told him in a nice way I thought that was BS, because I had never heard of a filter causing a 2 meg speed decrease.

After this he said that the only thing he could do is send a tech out to my house for a minimum of a $60 dollar charge because he "knew" it was something in my house and could not be anything on their end. Other than this he said he could offer no help.... this is the worst interraction with ATT I have had... 4 years of service and I have usually had quality techs help.

So instead of risking what could be an unnecessary charge, is there anything I can do to validate that there is nothing wrong on my end that could be causing this? I have since the conversation removed the filters and surprise, no change.

I'm fairly technical and have been even thinking of running a new cat5 from the box to my machine to ensure that its not an internal wiring thing. So besides bad wiring is there anything else I can check before giving up and having them send over a tech?
