| reply to uytr I have an A650 model Samsung and it certainly has one of the best LCD screens out there right now. The A550 should be almost as good as the 650 model. I would certainly go for a Samsung LCD, especially at their current price point.
Amazon has the LN40A550 model at only $1100 right now with free shipping. Over 100 favorable reviews as well: »www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN40A550-···7&sr=8-2
If you want a more direct comparison between the A550/650 and the Sony V4100, I'd refer you over to AVSForum but their servers just had a major crash and are currently down.
I can also vouch for Samsung's service as well. Although I've had two faulty LCD computer monitors from them, they replaced it very quickly under warranty with few questions asked. -- Please use all available doors...you have 33 to choose from. |

1 edit | I too have a Samsung A650 (46") model LCD tv. Although I have only had it for 2 weeks, I love it so far. I am still tweeking on the settings to get to my liking, so far I found it best to turn everything auto off, and then tweak the other settings to your liking.
My previous TV was (and still have it) a Samsung 42" plasma from 2 1/2 years ago (HP-R4272) and it never had a problem and had a great picture as well.
I can not say anything bad about a Samsung TV and recommend them based on my personal usage. The A650 series in the 52" size has earned CNets editor's choice award for LCD's.
If you can afford the extra bucks for the LN40A650, it is $1499 at Circuit City and has 2 years no interest financing. 4ms response time and 120hz processing too. |

Straphanger , that's why i asked here since avs had crashed but i was able to ask the question when it came back but they had to recover to august 2 so my question is gone. |

I have the LN46A540, and I love it. You won't find as many people talking about it, being the Costco only model. But you are correct, it does look better than the 550.
I looked at the Sony, but I preferred the look of the Samsung. One warning, which I'm sure you've found if you've done any research, the built in audio is rather crappy. There are some tweaks you can make to the EQ to help, but it's still not great. The picture is absolutely beautiful though. (check the avsforum for different settings, or I'll be happy to share mine if you end up buying one) The out-of-the-box settings may look ok at first, but once you see it tweaked, you'll be blown away.
The sad thing for you.....they were running a $200 off sale last week. I've had mine almost 3 months now, but they still refunded me the coupon difference. -- Intel Q6600 @3400Mhz/GA-EP35-DS3P/2x 2048Mb G.Skill/Seagate 750.10/EVGA 8800GT's SLI/Silverstone 850W/Custom water cooler |

| I agree, and I wouldn't expect one to sound as good as a receiver/speaker setup. But even compared to other Plasma/LCD TVs, this particular Samsung is lacking. Personally I think the picture makes up for it, certainly when you consider most people will have a receiver/speakers anyway, but I felt I should point it out to the OP. -- Intel Q6600 @3400Mhz/GA-EP35-DS3P/2x 2048Mb G.Skill/Seagate 750.10/EVGA 8800GT's SLI/Silverstone 850W/Custom water cooler |

@bell.ca | reply to uytr The V4100 has sparkles so i suppose it's better to have lower sound than sparkles. |

The sound on my Panasonic plasmas sound good. But yes that does not compare to running the audio through a sound system and using DTS audio. -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

| reply to uytr I have the A650 series LCD by Samsung, and although I am happy with it, you will see more "screen door"/"sparklies" on LCD than with plasma on SD cable TV programs.
Most times it is not overly annoying, but if the content is poor quality to begin with it is pretty evident. My Plasma TV, which I replaced with the LCD, did not have this problem. It tends to be better on SD channels. When our cable provider goes all digital here and has more HD content, it won't matter as much.
But on HD and Blu-Ray or HD-DVD movies WOW... love the LCD!!

1 edit | reply to Camelot One I did some basic research on the samsung and really liked what I read. I picked one up last week and need to get another HD box so I can see the picture as it's meant to be seen!
I would greatly appreciate a copy of the settings you mentioned as I'm reluctant to dig to deep on my own.
Edit: removed email
Thanks |

Remember that each Input stores it's settings independently, so you need to set up your preferences for each one. In my case everything runs to a video switching receiver, so the TV only gets one input. -- Intel Q6600 @3400Mhz/GA-EP35-DS3P/2x 2048Mb G.Skill/Seagate 750.10/EVGA 8800GT's SLI/Silverstone 850W/Custom water cooler |
