Trying to get to Castle Cops--is it down again?

I am a premium member of Castle Cops. I'm trying to get to the site for some help with my computer. Is the site down again? Looking for some help in updating my Itunes software. I keep getting a message that says "there is a problem with the windows installer package." I've searched all over the internet and can't find the answer on how to fix this problem. Thanks for your time.

Thanks Renaldo. I have gotten as far as the main page (which loads very slowly) but when I try to go to the forums to post it just never gets to the page.

I am just trying to find a fix to the windows installer package error problem I am having when I try to update the iTunes software. Any ideas there?

Thanks for your help.

My daughter downloaded some songs from iTunes and a few of them won't go into her iTunes---we get the message that says "windows installer package error" when we try to update the software. She had an iPod Nano but we just bought a new 8GB iPod Touch. I haven't even opened the box yet but I am sure the same thing will happen when I try to put the iTunes songs on the new iPod. I had the same problem last summer when updating to the new version of iTunes. I searched all over the Internet for the fix---found it but did not write down what to do and now I can't remember. I think I had to turn some program off on the computer to do the update download and then turn it right back on. Very frustrating for me as I am NOT a computer savvy person. Thanks for your help.

Since this occured ( »Microsoft hires Paul Laudanski ) it appears that Castlecops site maintenance has been neglected.

Yes...very slow loading since Friday. When it did load, it took forever to load each Forum that I wanted to visit.
Haven't checked since Saturday. *hides coffee and snacks from Maintenance Personnel* *evilgrin*

Do a clean reinstall of Itunes by following these steps:
1. Download the latest Itunes package from »www.apple.com/downloads/ . Save it to your desktop or to a folder - do not run it at this time.

2. Open your Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs applet. Uninstall Apple Software Update, Itunes, and Quicktime (yes, all three - they will be replaced when Itunes is reinstalled).

3. Restart your PC.

4. Temporarily disable any Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware programs that may be running. This prevents them from interfering with the Itunes installation.

5. Install the Itunes package that you downloaded.

6. Re-enable your Anti-Virus and/or Anti-Spyware program(s).

7. Restart your PC.
Next, run Itunes. Please let us know if this has resolved the problem.

Hi Keith,

Thank you for answering me. I mentioned above that I am not computer savvy so here come the "dumb" questions--please bear wtih me--

1) If I reinstall iTunes, do I lose all the songs we have in iTunes? If so, how do I save them?

2) When I download the latest iTunes will I get the same "windows installer error" message?

3) How do I disable the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs?

My face is really red with embarrasement now as I really am computer challenged. I won't do anything you said above until I get a reply back from you. Thank you again for your help--I truly do appreciate it!

1) You do not lose all the songs you have in Itunes when you do the clean reinstall detailed in my previous posting.

2) When you download the latest Itunes you should not get the same windows installer error message.

3) Instructions for disabling anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are outside of the scope of this forum. If you do not know how to disable them then skip that part of the clean reinstall procedure.

Have you tried running the latest Itunes install program, overwriting the present installation? Sometimes this will correct problems without having to uninstall first.

I have not done the overwriting the present installation thing because I don't know what that is or how to do it.

I will follow your directions above and hope for the best. I'll let you know how it comes out. Thank you for your help Keith. I'm crossing my fingers that my computer doesn't implode.

Thanks RavenCajun--I will try that site.

Keith--it appears that your help worked for me. I did what you said and the iTunes installed without the "windows installer error" message. I hooked up the new iPod touch we bought and it downloaded all the songs in the iTunes library to it.

I told my daughter that this was the LAST iPod we were buying for her. I'm done! Too many headaches!

Thank you kindly for all your help--it's much appreciated. I do hope the Castle Cops site comes back up. It would be a shame for that site to be lost.

Since Laudanski is in the middle of selling the castlecops domain(s), there's no way to know wether or not the new owners will maintain them as they are. I surely do hope so.

Question remains: what's going to happen to all those donations for upgrading hardware, donated by castlecops members expecting a hardware upgrade for the castlecops sites/forums as they know and donated for? A total up to aprox. 10,000 USD has been collected. Does this end up in Laudanski's pocket as well? If so, I'm pretty sure that's not why all those people donated their precious money. I didn't...
