anon : I've noticed that if you watch the Silverlight video streams, it saves the chunks of video for to the cache folder of your browser. If you put about:cache into Firefox, it'll show you where all these files go.

Here's what I did. Set the cache to something large, like 1 GB. 2 hours of video is about 800 MB. Then, clear your cache and let the video run. When the video is done, you'll have a bunch of .AUD and .VID files in cache. Copy these files to another location and save the updated cache list with it (so you know what all the files are).

I believe these files are the audio and video streams separately. I've heard these files are VP7 format (made by On2), which is kind of obscure. Next, I'm trying to find a way to concatenate these files into full videos and from there, one should be able to transcode the files into a more useful format.

I'll post again when I've figured that out. I can't believe this is the best way to watch/record Olympic fencing...

anon : I got it to half work, but apparently this only works for "Live" streaming videos. For some reason VLC ended up with a message from NBC that there was a problem with my video stream.

That issue aside, has anyone figured out how to get this to work on the replays? It appears that NBC breaks the video into multiple little chunks and streams a chunk at a time. It makes a royal mess of things and the incoming files do not play. Replay Media Catcher doesn't seem to catch these chunks most of the time. DownloadHelper does, but it notices so many tiny chunks that it's insane. Any other thoughts?

anon : Thanks peggypwr1, that gets me a step closer! Uninstalling Silverlight fixed it to where now I get the mms address. It seems like Replay Media Catcher is very touchy as far as when you start the program vs when you start the streaming media because half the time it won't give any address at all, but that part I can do.

I hope you don't mind all the questions, sorry! :o

Here is where I am stuck. First, do I check the boxes to convert the video and audio both to Mpeg1, or do I just skip that step and do the "container" thing - selecting Mpeg1 only on that final step?

Also, when I have to save a file on the desktop, what name and file extension do I choose? If I select the wrong thing it only gives me an 11 second file and gets stuck at 6 seconds, and it's unwatchable. Also, one of the previous options (the Mpeg conversion or no conversion) gave me a complete file but it was grey when I played it, with no video and audio.

Thank you again for being so patient and helpful!
