Remember sometimes the EDGE will be on 800mhz and HSDPA will be on 1900mhz. So entering a building (1900 takes more of a hit while traveling through objects than 800, tower are positioned for 800 density, not 1900 density most likly) can make your phone loose the HSDPA signal, but switch to the EDGE signal that still works. This effect happens on Verizon sometimes. |

| reply to sansri88 CDMA (1x/EVDO) has a different setup.
Voice with 1x data on '1x' Data only on EVDO
AT&T has GSM (voice + GPRS/EDGE data) 3G UMTS/WCDMA (voice + HSDPA data) 3G devices also allow voice and data to run at the same time (i.e. surfing during a voice call).
3G spectrum (at least here in L.A.) is 10MHz out of 45MHz NYC has more spectrum and sites overall, but I suspect it 10MHz out of 55MHz there. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

| I've noticed that where I live I float between 3G and EDGE quite a bit, even though I live in a 3G area.
At one point last night I was indoors where I would normally have service but I only had 1 bar and EDGE data only. Very strange if you ask me, when my dad on Verizon had full service on his Blackberry. |
