I think I would rather spend about the same amount of $$$ on one those Asus micro-PCs and not be forever tied to Amazon.
One of the big selling points on the Kindle has been the FREE internet access thru the Sprint cellphone network that is included as part of the purchase price - no monthly fees. A friend of mine got one and he uses it all the time to check Gmail and stock market prices no matter where he is and without needing a data plan from a cell provider.
