Other Providers in NJ. Maybe time to say goodbye to SE

Does anyone here know of providers like speakeasy in NJ?

I been with SE since the DirectTV DSL fall. Now after so long I feel that the service reps and SE are no longer committed as they use to be.

It all started when I changed to OneLink. And they decided to send out a COVAD Tech. Well after they started the service I didn't get Sync nor my correct speed. Covad blamed the wiring then Verizon, Verizon blamed Covad, me, and the world.
Well after a week it started to work correctly for a while, then fast forward 8 months. Now it started again.

Called SE they sent a ticket to verizon. Verzion get the line fixed around 9AM Verizon tech come to check the NID. After he leaves the line goes down again. :-(

Call SE again. Now they say then need to send a Covad tech out to check the house wiring. But get this if the wiring from the NID to the Modem is bad they will fix it but Charge $199.00

I really need to become a Covad Tech because they Must get paid really GOOD!
And if I dont allow them to come out there is nothing else they can do! I will get to pay them $60 a month for no service.

What kind of crap is this, SE has become so anti-customer. It is sad there customer churn rate must be thru the roof.

So my reasons for leaving are valid.

Even if they fix this issue I am going to start looking because I feel the love is gone from SE. They are becoming more like the AOL's of the world and we all seen what happens when you think and act like that.

Easy way to trouble shoot - hook the modem to the NID and see if it gets better. If it is the same then Verizon is at fault (my guess is that it is their fault) and if gets better then inside wiring is a likely cause and no one will come out for free to fix inside wiring issues. Don't know why you would expect to have inside wiring fixed for free.

I already hook it directly to the nid and got the same issue.

I am not looking for them to do it for free. The issue with that is that to get Verizon back to fix there screw-up I need to have covad come out to prove it is not the wiring.

But $199 is overcharge. $60-80 is about right.
That is my opinion.

Anyway with a little prodding I was able to get SE to get Verizon to come out today to look at the pole again.

$199 helps prevent unnecessary truck rolls which are very expensive for Covad. If you tested at the NID then and let SE know that then they should not have suggested a Covad roll at all, although Verizon might try and force Covad to roll first before they will do anything. Verizon really seems to take pride in screwing with CLEC customers any way they can.

I don't think SE is anti-customer - as much as COVAD and Verizon love pointing the fingers at one another.

For the past 15 days or more - I've had intermittent connectivity w/ my Speakeasy DSL. Their tech support people ROCK! There was high capacitence on my line - so it was most probably trouble in the cable feeding the crossbox in my neighborhood - and one of the VZ techs split my pair to get someone else back in service on a bad pair.

SE called Covad - who called VZ - who claimed to roll a truck last weekend - no call - no show from the Verizon tech. (VERIZON SUCKS!) So - then I call back SE and say that nobody came out - and Covad won't escalate because they believe that VZ rolled a truck - but it never happened. No call - no show. Then Covad wanted to roll a truck - but after the last Covad idiot came here (and tuned my demarcation point (Dmarc) into a RATS NEST - when the problem was a DSLAM card) I refused. My house is wired w/ Cat 5e and I put a meter on it - actually I ran a meter from the splice box into my home - and to where my DSL modem was - and had no issues at all. The problem was in the outside plant.

Anyway - VZ and Covad passed the buck back and forth - leaving me w/o any service when I was on-call for my job. I needed connectivity. I really didn't want to leave Speakeasy - and their tech support people did their damn best to help - but it's hard to fight a big retarded giant like Verizon.

So - I had no other choice but to move my service over to Comcast.

Even when they roll FIOS out - I'll never use Verizon. They are an evil evil evil corporation - who have no regard for customers - or their own employees for that matter.

Goodbye Speakeasy - I will miss you! You were an awesome ISP! The problem was Verizon lack of being able to keep me on a clean pair. Maybe I'll return someday soon - and I'll always recommend and refer people to you!

Regards,

NJRob

PS - F*** Verizon!
