alhanson : KathiB

Go out and buy your self a router. I would recommend a MIMO 802.11n type Router. Set up your router’s (three blank spaces) for DNS like this!

	208.67.220.220
	208.67.222.222
	4.2.2.2

The reason you fill in the third DNS, so the proxy doesn’t fill it in for you. Next disable the automatic detect proxy in you OS and Brower. What the proxy does is send Open DNS one [208.67.220.220] a page it can not resolve – so DNS one passes to Open DNS two, DNS two can resolve it – and then the proxy writes it self in to the third blank sometime visibly and sometimes invisibly. The third blank setting in your router has the default setting of [0.0.0.0] which can be written to by a proxy server for good or bad reasons. The third DNS can be any DNS it is just there for filler to secure your router from a DNS worm attack. I use [4.2.2.2] because it is a DNS people on the Forum have use for testing and are familiar with.

The way I turned off the optimizer I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the OS. I don’t think you have to be that drastic. The reason I did that way is because it made me feel better.

If you have a wireless router you might want to configure the router to only let, your computers MAC addresses be able to connect to it. I have found that a week signal can greatly reduce the performance of your modem. I tested this by making layered sheet metal wall between the modem and computers antenna. By taking the barer away from the computer the modem dramatically went back to normal performance. I wonder how much of the problems come from a weak wireless connection or someone else piggy-backing there connection. The piggy-backers would always from afar have a weak signal.

Next I would recommend installing two browsers Firefox and Chrome. Then install the Java ™ 6 Update 10 for both browsers along with the plug-in add-block for Firefox. Chrome is excellent for accessing on line Google G-mail and surfing educational type site that have no ads. Firefox on the other hand, is a secure fast browser for researching stuff on the internet when you don’t know where you are going or what you’re clicking on. You will find when a web page appears it will work and you will not be waiting for the Wildblue proxy to get done sending you web page elements that Firefox and Chrome already have.

al

Earth Signal : Did you ever follow Spice300's instructions and check for packet loss. If you would post the results I'm sure someone can do a analysis of the results and tell you if there is a problem. The customer service reps have no way of seeing if you are have packet loss causing the same data to need and load over and over. When the same data has to reload several times if greatly effect the speed your pages load.

--
Ron~ Wildblue Select Pak, Beam 26, Dell XPS600 Pentium D~dc 3.0GHz, 2Gig Ram, dual 160Ghd, XP pro, Linksys WRT54G router, client is Laptop, XP home

Earth Signal : Follow Spice300's instructions on pinging. I had similar problems a few months back and it turned out my modem was bad causing poor uploads. The pinging and checking for packet loss pretty much proved this and when I called CS I got escalated to second level after showing them the packet loss. Within 24 hours a tech had the problem fixed. I got a good tech and he went over the system from one end to the other and checked for ever possible problem.
--
Ron~ Wildblue Select Pak, Beam 26, Dell XPS600 Pentium D~dc 3.0GHz, 2Gig Ram, dual 160Ghd, XP pro, Linksys WRT54G router, client is Laptop, XP home

KathiB : Here too download speed of 1540 - upload speed of 46 to 68 mostly.... and I have 23 and a half more months of this crap - they say everything is ok on their end and have even blamed it on the use of my linksys. Speeds are exactly the same with and without the linksys. We need someone to report this crappy upload speed to that has the power to investigate and solve this problem once and for all... Even the tech that came here said they were incorrect with there readings and shouldn't charge me for the very slow service.
