 | "WhyMax" indeed: more like clueless than wireless I'd like to reinforce my earlier message. We were and slightly still are a wireless ISP. We were the first to advertise wireless in the SF Bay Area. We have almost entirely abandoned wireless as being (1) too expensive to deploy, (2) too expensive to maintain, (3) not good enough to reply upon. We can't guarantee service levels without using licensed spectrum, which make wireless the Rich Boys' game, and the Rich Boys are SCUMBAGS.
The FCC and the "incumbents" (read: mass telcos and cablecos) have done everything they can to ELIMINATE the chance for small ISPs to PLAY AT ALL. We used to be able to sell T1 lines cheaper than PacBell=SBC=AT&T, but thanks to the FCC and the economic Fascists in this country, the consumer no longer has a choice and our business is cut to pieces.
I wrote COMMUNITYFIBER.ORG as the FINAL SOLUTION to this moneygrubbing telecom mess we're in: if the big boys want to kill off all small ISPs, then fine: I AGREE, as long as we can KILL OFF THE MONOPOLIES AS WELL. If we can't play at ALL, then they can't PLAY AT ALL: let's quit LYING that telecom is NOT a UTILITY to be delivered to the consumer at UTILITY RATES.
YOU (whoEVER you are) will benefit ENORMOUSLY by adopting the model described at COMMUNITYFIBER.ORG. The only people who will oppose that model are those who LINE THEIR POCKETS WITH YOUR MONEY until you GET RID OF THEM AS DESCRIBED.
Each community that does the FTTH will create a network the big boys cannot TAMPER WITH, SNOOP ON, FILTER TO SUIT THEMSELVES, or create ARTIFICIAL AND MEANINGLESS PRICE DISTINCTIONS with. You will get GIGABIT SERVICE TO START WITH, unless 10gbps is commodified by the time you build, in which case you'll get TEN GIGABITS: And it will be YOUR NETWORK, NOT THEIRS.
Once we have put the "incumbents" OUT OF BUSINESS, there won't BE THESE JERK PESTS TO LOBBY THE FCC AGAINST OUR INTERESTS. WE deserve what WE WANT, NOT what THEY want to GIVE US.
