Remember sometimes the EDGE will be on 800mhz and HSDPA will be on 1900mhz. So entering a building (1900 takes more of a hit while traveling through objects than 800, tower are positioned for 800 density, not 1900 density most likly) can make your phone loose the HSDPA signal, but switch to the EDGE signal that still works. This effect happens on Verizon sometimes.
